Personnel File: WSCR's Mitch Rosen Posted by Ed Sherman at 3/26/2009 on Chicago Business We recently introduced our new feature, the Personnel File. This is a chance to get some insights into the people who move and shake the sports business and media community in Chicago and elsewhere. Today's participant is long-time sports radio executive Mitch Rosen. Current position: Program Director, WSCR-AM 670 Born: 1-17-66, Skokie Education: Niles West High School; Winona State University First job in sports: Sportswriter, Skokie Life Newspaper Previous jobs: Radio since 1988; short stint as General Manager CBA team, Chicago Rockers People who influenced you the most: Jimmy de Castro and Larry Wert. Both taught me the skills of managing people. People you admire in the business: On-air talent, guys like Mike North, Dan Bernstein, Mike Murphy, and Terry Boers. All these guys understand sports radio and how to "play radio." Most memorable day in the profession: Probably working the overnight shift during the first Gulf War. I was at WGN Radio, and I was able to produce talk shows through the night and track down people throughout the world. That was unbelievable. What you value in a business relationship: Honesty. Biggest challenge these days: Challenge between programming and sales. What makes good radio while establishing a business sense. What would be the perfect day for you outside of your job: Hanging with my wife Mary & son Ben. We are a sports related family. Favorite sports movies: "Slap shot" Love to trade places for a day with: A Beer Vendor. It would be fun to talk to so many people. White Sox fan or Cubs?: All Sox, business and personal Favorite athlete to watch: Bobby Jenks Words to live by: Radio is the best medium. It is still reactionary and instantaneous. The only competition to radio is radio itself. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/ ... siness.com |

On-air talent, guys like Mike North, ...................understand sports radio and how to "play radio." Oh Mitch I question this statement. If he knew, he would still be there. Anyone can ask for the sky, it takes a real idiot to expect it. |

He mentions North but not Mully or Hanley...oooh. Although they are more newspaper guys than radio guys I guess. Quote: Words to live by: Radio is the best medium. It is still reactionary and instantaneous. The only competition to radio is radio itself. That's worse than an athlete's post-game cliche fest. |
