Post subject:  Mike vs. Logic in calling out Couch

I caught the last five minutes of today's show when they had the news about the Chicago Sun Times filing for bankruptcy. Mike speeds through the story as only he can and then proceeds to end with this gem about Greg Couch. As you know, Couch announced that he will be leaving the Sun Times to go to work for Yahoo! Sports. North proceeded to call him a "quitter" based on the fact that Couch wrote a column critical of John Paxson and the rumors surrounding his quitting his job as General Manager. He sees both actions as being the same and inferred that Couch is being a hypocrite.

Huh?

Forget the Paxson argument because, like most of North's thoughts, it doesn't mean anything here and is a bad comparison. Paxson's was job performance and health related (at least that is what was brought up when the story surfaced). It didn't have anything to do with the financial stability of the organization.

The Bulls are an organization that isn't going anywhere-literally and figuratively-anytime soon. They are an NBA franchise that is not in jeopardy of folding, thus, people are not about to jump ship due to hard economic situations regarding their employer. You are either going to get fired for poor work performance or you will quit on your own. There doesn't seem to be any outside factors-such as bankruptcy-that figure into people's jobs with the Bulls.

Couch took an approach that anyone with common sense would do. If you know your company is in trouble and there is a chance that you could lose your job, wouldn't you be pro-active and try to find employment elsewhere? Marriotti was right about the newspaper industry being in a state of demise. Papers are cutting anywhere they can if not outright folding up. The future is not bright for the newspaper industry and Couch isn't the only one who is, or has, pursued other job opportunities. I guarantee you that a bunch of Sun Times employees have updated and sent out their resumes to other employers.

He didn't quit his job in the same vein as he questioned Paxson for considering it. The Sun Times FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY.

Again, another reason to not watch his show or listen to his stupidity.

And there are people (Mac, Huebner, Grobber and some here to name a few) that STILL defend this guy. This is the epitimy of what North is. Say something ignorant and loud with no valid leg to stand on. Then argue loudly and change the subject to chicks, booze, Chinamen and so on. Lound ignorance is not funny or entertaining. I guess some think otherwise.

What the . . . ?

The guy's a "quitter" because his company, not to mention his industry in general, is in the fucking toilet and he's looking for another opportunity to do what he does and support his family? Besides all the changes in the media world, that Conrad Black moron ran the damn paper into the ground and now Couch is under some obligation to stay and go down with the ship? Why?

Are the guys who left the Score because they think they see a better opportunity with North's new venture quitters, too?

Was North a quitter when he folded dontfademe after only a few months?
