Goom Radio Gets New Funding
NEW YORK -- April 14, 2009: Goom Radio, headed by former Clear Channel/New York President Market Manager Rob Williams and onetime Director of Google Audio Drew Hilles, has secured about $16 million in funding from Wellington Partners Venture Capital, Elaia Partners, and Partech International. Goom will launch its U.S. service later this year.

Williams said, "Goom Radio has set out to change the way radio is perceived by creating a unique alternative to what is currently available in the world of radio, both online and off. Receiving the support of Wellington Partners, Partech, and Elaia, all of which have strong experience in this space, validates our belief that there is tremendous potential for this offering."

The Wellington funding was led by general partner Eric Archambeau, who said, "We see something fundamentally disruptive in Goom Radio; the company is evolving one of the few remaining mediums that hasn't been overhauled by the web. Printed news, television, music, and movies have been transformed by the web, and now it is radio's turn."

Additionally, Goom adds former Google Audio sales executive Joe Anastasi as AE for its sales team. Hilles, who serves as Goom's Chief Sales Officer, said, "We look forward to having Joe on the team. He has great experience and strong relationships within the advertising community, both of which will be an asset as we expand our partnerships."

It's not a bad idea, just going to be poorly executed.

Sorry Biggie but its a bad idea. Until they can put this in cars or boom boxes, it will never be in the same league as radio.

Drive time, Barbecues, tailgaiting, lounging on the patio and many more are examples of why this is stupid. I'm just an average guy and I wil NEVER listen to a radio station on my computer especially during my free time. And even if I had a job where I could, I cannot see how ANYONE would pick that shit over hundreds of other options.

But most importantly Team North is not smart enough to pull this off. Someone will eventually but not them.

!"

But it will be in all these places within a decade, so it is a good idea, just a little ahead of its time.

Not even really ahead of its time.

Now that it's on my phone I can listen in the car, at work, and when I'm sitting and watching my kids soccer and baseball practices.

I take my phone everywhere. I don't take my radio everywhere.

In the end, it will all be about content - and that leaves North and crew on the short end of the stick.

Unfortunately, you don't take me everywhere either, as I don't have that technology on my phone.
