Webio executive backs Mancini
Posted by Ed Sherman on Chicago Business

I wasn't surprised to get a call from Jesse Rogers Wednesday morning.

Mr. Rogers is the program director at the new Internet sports talk outlet, chicagosportswebio.com. He wanted to respond to an item I had about Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini.

I noted the former boxer and late afternoon co-host with Chet Coppock mentioned Ben Wallace as if he still played for the Bulls during a discussion about the team Tuesday. It was an incredibly huge gaffe, spotlighting that Mr. Mancini, who is doing the show from Los Angeles, is out of touch when it comes to Chicago sports.

It would be akin to being on a Boston radio and talking about how the Red Sox look strong with Manny Ramirez in the lineup.

Mr. Rogers acknowledged Mr. Mancini committed an error; Mr. Coppock corrected him on the air. However, Mr. Rogers contends the boxer's overall package is strong.

"We knew going in that this wasn't going to be the every day talk show," Mr. Rogers said. "If you want to play a game of 'gotcha.' you'll catch some mistakes from Ray. But what Ray brings to the table outweighs those other things. There's so much positive with Ray, we'll put up with the mistakes."

Mr. Rogers thinks Mr. Mancini has shined in doing interviews with athletes and coaches. He pointed to a session with Hawks coach Joel Quenneville. Mr. Mancini said he would love the chance to talk to the team.

"We may lose the game, but we won't lose the fight," he told Mr. Quenneville.

Mr. Rogers said he told Mr. Coppock to have fun if Mr. Mancini screws up on the air. He labeled the boxer's remark about Mr. Mancini as being "funny bad."

"He made the mistake, they laughed about it, and they moved on," Mr. Rogers said.

Yes, they did. The question is: Will listeners do the same? Sometimes you only get one chance in the radio game.

Are you sure Chet Coppock didn't hit Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini harder in that ChicagoSportsWebio.com commercial?

"Mr. Rogers thinks Mr. Mancini has shined in doing interviews with athletes and coaches."

Yes, the incoherent ramblings with Greg Walker followed by the totally-out-of-the-blue question about Terry Francona being Michael Jordan's hitting coach [which he was not] was really a shining moment.

"Mr. Rogers said he told Mr. Coppock to have fun if Mr. Mancini screws up on the air. He labeled the boxer's remark about Mr. Mancini as being 'funny bad.' "

I fail to see the humor in being paid to co-host a Chicago sports show and thinking Ben Wallace is on the Bulls. Go home, Jesse and wash all Mike North's ass-crack juice off your tongue.

As a LONG TIME defender of Jessie, this is not his role! He is playing out of position and knows that Boom boom must go and I haven't even heard the guy!

Turn off the Coppock/Mancini show. That will improve the air quality instantly.

I'm proud to say that I haven't listened to a nanosecond of that abortion.

Yeah better. Whiel flipping there today, for my very few secs of viewing rewarded me with an air hockey game with North and a little hottie. I did stay long enough to admire the denim jeans wrapped tightly around her ass but North ruined the fantasy by......well.....being himself. Hat backwards, rambling and sputtering. Yeah, I can see why you think its gettng better.

Has nothing to do with North hatred. I actually would like to hear some of Webby and Fred, and I've always been a J Hood fan. But until they figure out a way to get the webio into my truck, the only thing I would ever have chance to hear is MITM and the Chet and Boom Boom abortion.

you can download it from itunes if you want to listen in your truck. I actually like listening to boers & bernstein that way without all of the commercials. Sorry David Spada

I finally got to listen to webby and fred today and they were good. The few other times I have signed on over there because murph and his stupid stat guy interviews are awful, I always end up with hood and his partner whatever the hell his name is. I think that show is pretty bad. They seem to get a topic and the first 5 minutes they stay on it, then they stray off of it and it really feels like they are 2 guys sitting in a room with no one else listening. It doesnt engage the listener. I tried to hear the boom boom character but ive missed it so far, just too see if he really is that bad. As far as north, no chance im going to listen to that meatball shit, ive heard far too much of it in the past.
