He is horrible.

Take it easy there JohnKirk - Darkside believes you can't criticize Black folks - he's a young Warner Saunders & he thinks you're a young Rob Feder!

Warner Saunders...one of the biggest tools in Chicago sports history. What he did to Feder was unprofessional and uncalled for.

I remember back during Bears season, channel 5 was running these promos where Daryl Hawks played practical jokes on other channel 5 sports people and it finished with "DARYL HAWKS IS NOW HERE!" or something, and I was like "okay, great, but who's Daryl Hawks"

My favorite Sports anchor is Ryan Baker. He is smooth and knows his stuff, a real pro.
Figures NBC let him go.Mr. Hawks is the opposite. He should be working in Fishtaint,Arkansas to hone his craft.

Baker actually chased the money Jimmy and ran away from the 'no lead' sports anchor approach on NBC5.

Guys, I think Ryan Baker was one of the last hires CBS2 V.P. & General Manager Joe Ahern made before he was fired a few months ago among the many, many cutbacks since WBBM-TV moved into that new studio of theirs at 22 W. Washington. Daryl Hawks, or as Mac called him "Tony", has been awful since he arrived from Las Vegas. Mike Adamle's best years are well in the scrapbook. By the way, any idea what the Jenny Jones-looking Kerry Sayers and Howard Sudberry are doing these days? I'd rather have Kerry or Howard than Daryl & Mike bumbling & stumbling through their NBC5 sportscasts...

Mike's problem isn't really his bumbling, IT'S HIS CONSTANT SCREAMING. Ever since he left WLS HE'S DONE NOTHING BUT SCREAM AT THE CAMERA.

Could he take over Steven A Smith's vacated role on ESPN then and go away from Chicago?

Ryan Baker? Him and his cliches and cute little play on words? Nah...Gengreco is good...so is Shanowski...
When I was a kid the 3 big sportscasters were Bill Frink, Wendell Smith, & Bruce Roberts. Anyone else remember these guys?

Those guys were a little before my time. I do have vague memories of Frink, and remember Bruce Roberts dropping dead on the set.

My guy in my yute was Johnny Morris.

I remember all those times Johnny went to Jeannie Morris for a live shot during his sportscasts, not to mention his "Blue Plate Specials" during football season & all the times Mike Ditka made him look like an ass on the "Ditka Show" Sunday mornings in front of a live audience. Bruce Wolf always lowered his voice like Bruce Roberts used to do giving golf highlights...

I used to love those Bears wrap-up shows at 10:30 Sunday nights with Johnny trying in vain to pull a cogent thought out of a shitfaced Ditka. My favorite moment was the night Ditka slurred, "Cap Boso, that's a funny name huh?"

Actually, A7X, the one Mark Giangreco did with Steve McMichael was a barrel of laughs when NBC5 actually had a lead sportscaster...

Yeah, that definitely had an "anything can happen" vibe to it. I remember the night Mongo pulled out a pair of scissors and cut Giangreco's tie off in the middle of the show.

I caught the Ch. 5 sportscast tonight at 10:00 and Hawks was fine. Didn't make any mistakes that I noticed, good delivery, seemed personable -- he was significantly better than just about any time I've ever seen Mike Adamle.

I don't get why so many people dislike him.

I remember Bruce Roberts always ending the sports segment on the Sunday night news with a clip of a long
putt being made at that days PGA tourney: "Here's one that truly had...............eyes!" as the ball went in
the cup.
