I had heard this rumor and hinted at it here and today this became true. Kathy and Judy are gone as of noon today. I posted a dream I had about Dan McNeil taking the slot but frankly it's about as likely as me being named the Queen of England. Any thoughts? |

Hmmm . . . I'm guessing most people here aren't exactly members of Kathy & Judy's target demographic. |

It's unclear who will replace Kathy O'Malley & Judy Markey at Newstalk 720 WGN, but one prominent name mentioned is Bob Sirott. The host of WGN Radio's "Noon Show" the last 2 years has been prominently mentioned as a leading candidate to become full-time 10p newsman at NBC5 now that Warner Saunders is officially retiring. However, there's been talk that NBC5 may go solo at 10p, just like what CBS2 just did with Rob Johnson, and I don't mean the left-handed QB who sucked with the Buffalo Bills & Washington Redskins. That being said, if Sirott gets passed over for the 10p anchor job at WMAQ-TV, he may continue anchoring 5 & 6p newscasts at the NBC Universal-owned station, but Sirott could be in line to replace Kathy & Judy at WGN, and expand his shift beyond 12Noon. Stay tuned on this one. |

In fact he sucked so badly that he couldn't get his team into the endzone in a 15-0 rout of the Beloved in the Bucs' championship season. I believe this was the game after which Hanley covering the visiting team locker room found himself next to naked and wet Warren Sapp. |

The idea of Sirott being the replacement wouldn't make sense to why they got rid of K&J - they want a younger demographic listening in. |

Hawkeye Vince wrote: they want a younger demographic listening in. A younger demographic, WGN wants? Well, let me offer a few words of advice to them, then. (And mind you, the only exposure I get to WGN is during Cubs games. God knows what the station is like the rest of the time) 1. Stop breaking in every two minutes from the "weather center" with that guy with the deep and alarming voice who sounds like he's announcing a pending nuclear explosion. Young people generally don't care to hear the weather every two minutes. They're not generally preoccupied daily with the threat of severe weather and tornadoes, especially on calm days and evenings. 2. Stop concluding your weather updates by announcing you will have more weather updates in the morning, "so you'll know what to wear". Young people don't dress according to the weather. They don't throw on a Mr. Rogers sweater if the temps might dip into the high 60's. They pretty much know what they like to wear, and a few degrees difference in temperature or a 17% chance of a few raindrops doesn't impact their decisions. 3. Stop running ads for cemeteries. I mean, I would think this would be obvious. 4. Stop running ads explaining how the city is moving particular cemeteries because they've been around for so long. Stop running ads about what to do if you have a bunch of friends buried in a particular cemetery that the city is moving. 5. Stop thinking Garry Meier appeals to the younger demographic. See, at one time, he did. But, see, that was 25 years ago. Do you understand this? I like Garry. But nobody younger than me does. 6. Stop repeating the price changes in October beans, November wheat and December corn. True enough, there are indeed some young hot shots out there that like day-trading. But those are not among the things they are trading. Just a few ideas for the suggestion box over there. |
