It hasn't been on for 3 or 4 weeks. It's CLTV news from 9-10 on Sundays. Is it done? My Comcast menu still says it should be on. |

Yes. If you go to the CLTV homepage one of the top videos is ...Discussing the Last episode of Sports page. |

Even though I don't have CLTV on my DIRECTV system, there's been talk about "Sports Page" being extinct for quite sometime now. I think the show's demise has to do in large part with CLTV's parent Tribune Company owning a stake in Comcast SportsNet. Keep in mind the Chicago Tribune is the title sponsor of "Chicago Tribune Live", a.k.a. "The Joker's Wild", at 5:30p weekdays on CSN. Host David Kaplan, of course, also hosts "Sports Central" at 7p weeknights on Newstalk 720 WGN. In plain English, because the Trib has more than a casual interest in CSN, the "Page" has all but closed on the live, local sports talk show that once featured the likes of Lance McAlister, Peggy Kusinski, and yes, Rob Goldman, among its rotating hosts. |

I liked CLTV "Sports Page". I like the roundtable sports talk show format. Who can forget The Sportswriters" with Bill Jauss, Bill Gleason, Ben Bentley, Joe Mooshill, Lester Munson, and Rick Telander. Well, ok...with the exception of Telander, this was a great show. |

John Roach, the man who also produced the short-lived "Jim Shorts Cavalcade of Sports For You", was also the guy who produced the "SportsWriters on TV" for the former SportsChannel and FOX Sports Net Chicago. Interestingly enough, Gleason created the radio version of the "SportsWriters" show on WGN Radio Sunday afternoons way back in 1975. While the radio version that aired on 720 AM & briefly on ESPN Radio 1000 covered Chicago's teams, the one that aired on SportsChannel & FSN covered more of a national scope, complete with the cigar smoke and the dim lighting above the table. Last but not least, moment of silence please for Ben Bentley...Thank you. |
