Zenger, of Chicago Business Examiner fame, actually replied to a comment I left him under his most recent post, the one about webio needing new leadership. The post is here: http://www.examiner.com/x-11183-Chicago ... sh-of-egos June 14, 2:04 PM C. Howitt Fealz says: The FBI raided Hernandez' Chicago office, which you failed to mention in this article. You also deleted your piece lauding webio, which ran two days before the scandalous stories broke about bounced checks (and two days later the FBI story broke). A high-cost startup with high operating costs, for a potential audience that's quite limited - that's not a business model that will succeed. What's with the douchebaggy pieces? Kenneth Zenger says: Scandal is putting it lightly. As much as I like the concept, and I do disagree with your comment of high costs and limited audience, I believe this company is in trouble. I did not want to provide a positive review for them to showcase during this so I pulled it. Hernandez is obviously not the leader that CWS needs and unless North can get control back and pull leadership miracles the company will not get back on track and is as good as done. Even the best idea, strongest concept, or revolutionary idea can NOT survive poor leadership and unethical behaviour. I am watching with great interest. We all have our own opinions... |

chip egan says: With all due respect, the pieces you've written about ChicagoSportsWebio were more like press releases about the organization than opinion. You've deemed it "revolutionary" and yet those of us who follow Chicago Sports and sports media saw this venture as a failed effort from the begining. As I read your initial piece I thought you might be on Dave Hernandez's payroll. I read nothing that looked at the setup with a critical eye. Everything I read from you made this venture out to be something we should be investing money into because it is so wonderful and without fault. I would defend you if your statements in support of Webio were more thought out and supported with evidence that could counter critical opinions of it. There were a number of questionable things involved with Webio from the start, yet you praised this effort and seemed to trumpet its effort rather than its actual effect. Please look more in depth into issues before making opinions. June 14, 10:42 PM C. Howitt Fealz says: It has been reported that Dan Patrick (a nationally-known sports talk host) gets 40,000 hits per day on his site. He's on the terrestrial stations, but simulcasts. For a national personality to only get 40,000 hits per day, that tells you something. Chicago has WSCR and WMVP, two well-entrenched stations that both stream. If I recall the statistics correctly, they collectively get 40,000 or fewer listeners on average per quarter hour, plus their web audiences. Webio would have to get its audience from this pool - might get some out-of-staters, but the base is here. That's really not that large of an audience. June 15, 9:30 AM Jason says: Wait, wait, wait...you people purport to be journalists, yet you don't want to stand behind something you wrote before? You can just pretend what you wrote before didn't exist? June 15, 2:58 PM Jason says: Old and busted: "If early performance offers insight I would say that Chicagosportswebio.com will continue to be successful and will not only make good decisions but will surprise us. They are changing an industry and I believe will ultimately establish Chicagosportswebio.com as a mainstay in the Chicago media industry." (You, on June 10) New hotness: "What seems painfully clear to me is that if somebody doesn’t step up to the helm and take control at Chicagosportswebio.com, what was once a small company destined to change an industry will become a great idea that initially burned bright and then fizzled away to nothing." (You on June 15) A lot can change in 5 days, man. A lot. June 15, 3:00 PM C. Howitt Fealz says: This webio is dead, 5 PM tomorrow. June 15, 10:27 PM |

For the record, I didn't have the AQH statistics handy (SHARK probably does). Any error in the stat I gave was simply because I pulled the numbers from my ass. |
