To those of you who have a financial advisor or consultant, did you do a background check before you let him handle your money? Or did you assume that he was legit? Do you really know what your money is doing...or do you only know what the statement says?
If you didn't pay for a detailed background check, then don't rip on North.
Actually, North doing a Google search is probably more than most of you did.

Forget the posters on this board, where were the Tribune, SunTimes, tv stations, Terry B-O-R-E-S peeps? Hernandez was a convicted felon and every newspaper database should have access to court records Forget google, a simple search of legal records would have turned up the convictioon (and the bankruptcy filings.) If you are willing to pay a nickel a query, anyone can get access to the records of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Yet, no one in our vaunted media did any background check on the man. The news media took as gospel what they read in a press release and what they saw on a website.

I've long posted against Papi and he should have done a better job in checking out Hernandez, but am appalled at the utter lack of utility of the news media. Terry B-O-R-E-S again proves that not only can he giggle like a girl, his idea of timely commentary is to regurgitate what some producer takes from a website.

Listen, you shilling asshat. Anyone that does a seven figure business deal with a counter-party and brings a couple of dozen of their friends and colleagues into the deal has a duty to do some due diligence. North failed on that front big time. He failed Fred and Webby, Chet and Doyle, and he failed Jen and Hood and countless others. For you to start a thread about background checks he didn't do and to imply that a Google search was sufficient is to spit in the faces of these innocent bystanders who end up as collateral damage. Hernandez may have committed crimes here and clearly is a convicted felon. But North, the self-described street-wise businessman is guilty minimally of egregious errors of omission for what he didn't do to ensure that this venture was on the up and up. Beyond that, we'll learn as the facts come out what, if any, errors of commission, or worse, he has committed. It will all come out in the wash and no shilling by some transparent sycophant such as yourself can change that.

Obviously this is a great post and anyone who says differently is a liar or an idiot.

Best post yet on this. The Ed Sherman's of the world are nothing more than PR hacks. Sherman isn't the only one, everyone you listed is the same way. They are pathetic.

Some of us might have a lawyer look into the SUGAR DADDY when he might seem too good to be true....before we tell our buddies to QUIT their damned jobs and jump aboard.

This clown production was totally fueled by the ego of one Mike North who not only betrayed his listeners over the years by selling out and has now screwed over the lives of a lot of friends.

Your defense of him is just plain stupid, and I sure as hell am not absolving anybody who followed the lead of this guy and followed him to this boondoggle.....they should have asked some questions about the financing of this stunt which had about 40 people listening and could not have had advertising revenues to cover basic costs.

Maybe Team North did do a background check and didn't care. I mean think about it, when your other sponsor is a High School, you're pretty desperate. Mike needed to get something going quick. Ask yourself, why didn't he become a partner with Hernandez?

Kirk, you are a total idiot for this post. When I do a project, people go and see projects I have done and even talk to people that have done business with me and have bought units from me. These are called smart people, not 'street smart' people. True only so much can be done when checking, but North did NONE!

If I went to get financing for a development and it was from "some guy" who was giving me $1 million I would do everything I could to do a BACKGROUND check and have in the past. I would ask for some references just as he would of me. This is a standard business practice in this type of scenario.

Comparing this to some guy walking into UBS and sitting down with a planner is a poor attempt at your defense.

He didn't become an equity partner because then he is also liable for DEBT.
Why not just set yourself up with a salary and a title and to top it off, get your wife a ghost payroll salary also.

Most people do not do any due dilagence or pay for a background check. Look at all the folks Bernie Madoff & many others duped. People turn over money to financial advisors all the time based on a business card Stupid are these people.
If you want to dispute the point of my post thats fine...but the point is that there are many many stupid people who do not do the proper due dilagence...thus, the likes of Madoff & hernandez became rich. You watch the news, right?

Good, we're making progress...so at least you admit that North is stupid...that's a start. Soon you'll be seeing him like the rest of us.
