If this has been discussed, I missed it and I apologize, but . . . I have heard that the print version of the Sun Times cover story on Hernandez Sunday contained a quote from Fred Huebner that didn't make the online version (that version presumably being the one people have reproduced on this board).

Fred supposedly says he was "vaguely aware" that Hernandez was in "some trouble" but didn't say anything. Is this true? Anyone have a copy of yesterday's actual paper?

If true, isn't that kind of damning? Both to Fred and Mike?

Yes, it is true and yes it doesn't reflect well on Fred or North.

Here it is...its actually at LexisNexis...a legal website....hmmmm

Fred Huebner had been let go from WSCR-AM (670) in December.

"I was vaguely aware that David had been in some trouble."

Scroll down to the bottom where they recap all of the sidebars:

http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/En ... 62&start=4

Again, just a little Googling and you find the FACTS. Too bad North didn't spend the five minutes before bringing two dozen folks into his web...io

OK, I just saw your post on this. Sorry, I was out of town and didn't take the time to read the whole Larz thread.

Well, I think this is incredible and people should be making a bigger deal of this.

(1) FRED knew something, went to Webio anyway, probably stuffed his face at these lavish parties, and didn't tell anyone?

(2) FRED knew something, Shaer knew something (and probably many others who haven't come forward yet), and Mike, the guy who had Hernandez over to his house and did some kind of mortgage deal with him or through him, didn't?

Maybe I'm alone, but I'm rather stunned by this revelation.

To be fair to those guys, how can anyone really be sure of anything unless it's been affirmed by Tom Shaer?

As long as the checks clear, do you honestly give a crap about who you work for?

I would care if there's something in the past of my employer that would jeopardize the continuing of my checks clearing.

Three points:

A) Fred was unemployed at the time he was hired, so he had nothing to lose

B) Fred was sloppy seconds and only hired after Teddy Greenstein was prevented from making a huge mistake from his bankrupt employer, the Chicago Tribune.

Didn't Fred grow up near Morton West? He may have known this d-bag all along....

Fred's the Fire TV announcer, isn't he? And he's got many years of experience as a morning radio guy, so he's got SOMETHING to lose, in terms of his reputation. But, OK, maybe you're right. So, I guess a few jumbo shrimp cocktails at a Hernandez bash and a couple months pay is compensation for not questioning anything and letting several of your friends and colleagues hook up with this three-times-recently-bankrupt, convicted felon? I don't know; I'm just trying to understand what some people were thinking here.

there a levels of "what were they thinking?" though, Pappy's Crappy.
an opportunity to broadcast and be heard during the day being a given.

the "young" guys probably looked at it as a huge pay raise and trusted in the "older" more experienced guys. Webby's blog admitted as much.
the "older" guys: well, there are various levels there. unemployment being a major consideration. a blind eye? in some cases, maybe. in others, likely. either way, i'm sure that will all come out.

This is news to me...and I agree with Pappy's Crappy that this is a pretty significant revelation. This did not come out of left field...and the people dealing with DH KNEW he had a past. No doubt. DH lived in Downers Grove....isn't that where Fred lives too? Anyway...I understand Fred taking the job (nothing to lose)....but this convinces me even more that North knew he was getting in bed with.

The "Downers Grove connection" rears its ugly head!

C'mon, Fred, spill the beans. What EXACTLY did you know? When EXACTLY did you know it? From whom EXACTLY did you hear it? EXACTLY who else might have known?

How can you be vaguely aware of something? You're either unaware of something, wholly aware or too lazy/stupid to learn more. So did Jen know, too? Or was Sugarpappy's word good enough for her?

Don't blame Huebner...taking a 2 month long job that ends up being a front for a ponzi scheme is still far and away the best opportunity he's going to get for the rest of his life. He's probably just excited that DH didn't kill himself so he can send him a resume for when DH gets out of prison and starts a new business venture.

It doesn't appear in the online version, so I don't know if most have missed this, but the Sunday Sun-Times cover story on David Hernandez quotes Webio sportscaster and longtime MIKE NORTH FRIEND FRED HUEBNER as saying he was
"...vaguely aware that David [Hernandez] had been in some trouble."

WHAT? Huebner didn't think to suggest that North have his lawyer find out exactly what this con man's "trouble" had been? An Internet search more solid than Google costs $9.95 and turns up Hernandez' prior arrest and felony conviction, complete with documents.

Before North -who should already have known- and Coppock rip Tom Shaer, maybe they ought to rip their own co-worker and friend, Huebner. Or maybe Fred did tell them and they turned a blind eye.

They bet on the glitz being real and lost. I really don't feel that bad for them because they for the most part had no where to go and this was too good to be true. I feel bad they have joined the ranks of the millions of unemployed, but they bought North's bullshit and no have to live with it. these guys, including North, aren't the cream of the crop and went for big money. The future is very dim for the likes of Rogers, Ofman, Coppock, and the rest. Radio is contracting, especially pay wise, and I wish them well but I don't see much future for these guys. I can only wish North suffer the same fate. He is a con man and a bullshit artist with little talent.

I'm just pissed that Uncle Fuzzy and O.B. didn't get fucked by the guy. Then we could see their fire and passion as they railed on the guy.

I sure hope they end up somewhere on sportsradio before Week One of the NFL season.

The guy that truly puzzles me is Ofman....He always wanted to sound like the financial expert of the sporting scene....blathering about the Sox and Cubs sacred budgets every free agent season as if he had access to the books....talking about the stock market a lot....and he jumps aboard this Mike North piloted Air Chance flight over the Atlantic......Ofman's silence speaks volumes.

I think George is still trying to figure out how to pay all of those Detroit expenses he racked up and got rubber reimbursement checks for. He said in the paper that he was talked into taking an $1,800 plane ticket to Detroit...must've been first class and must be very painful to be paying out of his own pocket now. Ouch! Bet he would have rather taken the MegaBus for $1.00.
