Post subject: | DREW HAYES BACK WITH THE SCORE |
MAYBE PAPPY WASN'T LYING ABOUT HAYES COMING BACK 2 THE SCORE from phil rosenthal 's tower ticker blog Originally posted: June 25, 2009 Drew Hayes, operations director at WBBM-AM, adds WSCR-AM duties CBS Radio Chicago's Drew Hayes has been named operations danager at sports station WSCR-AM 670, adding those reponsibilities to those he already has with the same title at all-news WBBM-AM 780, effective Monday. Rod Zimmerman, CBS Radio Chicago's senior vice president and market manager, said in a memo to staff Wednesday that the move is part of "an effort to put as many resources as possible towards growing" the Score, which this month added Dan McNeil as its mid-morning host and installed Les Grobstein overnights. WSCR Program Director Mitch Rosen will retain responsibility for day-to-day operations with station talent reporting to him and sales and promotions bringing him their ideas and issues, the memo said. Rosen will report to Hayes, who will split his day between WSCR and WBBM-AM, where he has worked under Director of News and Programming Ron Gleason since 2007. At the Score, Hayes will be charged with overseeing the sports talk station from a strategic standpoint in terms of content, digital assets and other areas. A native New Yorker, Hayes first made a name for himself in Chicago as a talk-show host at the late WMAQ-AM from 1986 to 1988. He left to program a station in Cincinnati but returned to town as program director at WLS-AM 890, launching its talk format in August of 1989 and eventually becoming its operations director. He left in 1996 to join the ESPN Radio Network in Bristol, Conn., where he was general manager, later becoming program director and operations manager at Los Angeles' KABC-AM. Hayes, however, returned yet again in 2001, serving in a variety of capacities at WBBM-AM, the late WCKG-FM and, from 2001 to 2004, at WSCR. |

Hayes will be charged with overseeing the sports talk station from a strategic standpoint in terms of content This can't be a move that Dan, Terry and Bernsy are happy to see. |

The score has become the Heavy Fuel Crew Station, with Spiegle and Mac back. If Mitch is still around, who is Drew Hayes replacing? Anyone axed? |

I think "operations director" tends to be what they call someone who slides in above whoever was in charge before without formally replacing the PD or GM or whatevz. I've seen it before where one station's program director starts reporting to another station's program director, now "operations director" of both. |
