Do I have this right regarding Rome's show being broadcast here in Chicago?

When AM1000 decided to start broadcasting Jim Rome's show, I was under the impression that the deal was such that they were paying AM1000 to air the show in this market. When the show tanked in it's daytime timeslot, they moved it to late night. I thought they would have dropped the show by now in favor of something local or a national show that doesn't suck. How much longer is AM1000 going to keep airing this embarrassment of a show?

Good question. When Spaceball filled in with Carmen before Christmas, he even made fun of the show and the time slot. I would guess they are still receiving revenue, but why on earth would Rome or Premiere Radio pay to have it aired during such a shitty time slot?

If Rome was dropped from that slot, the only choice would be local (maybe J. Hood late nights) or ESPN Game Night. I wouldn't mind Hood at that time, but for some, if the choice is Hood or Game Night, you could call it "pick your poison."

I would rather go with GameNight in that spot, as it would, IMHO, be more informative and a better listen. I was a big All Night with Todd Wright fan, and his replacement isn't necessarily bad, just not nearly as good as Todd was.

I think it makes absolutely no sense, for example, to watch the Rose Bowl, then turn on the radio and listen to the Rome replay where he previews the damn game.

I like "Rome Is Burning", but his radio show is brutal. Long stints of dead air that would make Dahl envious. Plus, as someone posted previous, the "clones" ruin it. Some mouth-breather with a mullet, wearing zubaz, reading a poorly written rant, just screams "turn the dial" to me. I am out.

I think this guy is great, but I can see how he may not sink in to a tough local market like Chicago--it took me awhile to catch on to Howard Stern.Monologues are bad and claustophobic for radio hosts, but he's one of the few who could pull it off-- offbeat but with rapid firepower sarcasm once he gets going. Not quite as edgy as early Dahl. Think of Dan Berenstein going solo. Chris Rongye on the old summary show. More of a LA local show than national. Yea, sometimes you wanna mangle the scrawny nerdy twerp who mouthed off one thing too much in high school like when 'Chris' Everett flipped the table. But overall, im way entertained.

What else is on at this time slot?
J Hood, JRogers, or LHolmes Underground monologues could get bad----just nonstop bitching. Other times the PD has the ropes too tight on these guys. Some interns will eventually escape the Boyquarium while others will stay bad. I guess its ok for cheap stations to max out their labor laws and give up and coming local air talent a shot.

Overnite shows from the FOX ESPN SportingNews Network are bad too--- screaming airhead with the pipes, wannabe play by play ex jock hypesters on a hangover who waddle through a call like they actually know whats wrong with the 2nd line on Southeast Idaho State's division 4 hockey team.
All those years waiting for 820 to 24/7---now look what we got.
Bring back the Grobber!

Can someone explain the origins of referring to his listenership as clones? Also, WTF is up with his dumbass attempts to go ghetto with some words. Grille, jack, etc. I don't mind the occasional use. The regular use is fine too, if that's how people spoke in the environment one was brought up in. Rome just doesn't come across as someone with ghetto upbringings who just can't get that language out of his system. Rather, it seems like a horrible attempt to appeal to bad language craving demographics without violating any of the FCC policed rules.
