Fantastic!!!!!

As a White Sox season ticket holder this was one of the few guys in town who Reinsdorf could not intimidate!!!!

Mariotti will be all over the David Hernandez-Mike North mess also.

This is great......we don't need a Carol Slezak or boring Rick Telander......we need a guy who is a shit stirrer.

Agreed that he stirs his own variety of stew, but how do you believe he will be all over Hernandez/North? He will not actually report. He will pontificate like we do here. I find this board much more enjoyable than anything he spits out. Yeah, neither Slezak or Telander really bring it on a regular basis.

I take it that, since this is a move that appreciably devalues the newspaper on the balance sheet, it will make the overall sale easier?

Does this mean Jay will continue to get muted weekday afternoons by Tony "Stat Boy" Reali on ESPN's "Around the Horn" and will we see him put David Kaplan in his place on "The Joker's Wild", I mean Comcast SportsNet's "Chicago Tribune Live"? :?

The best pure columnists here in the last 20 years are Jay Mariotti and Skip Bayless.....You might totally disagree with a point or thirty they made, but you paid attention.

Dipshit Slezak got most of her notoriety writing that dumb assed predictable column about the "offensive" blow up doll in the Sox clubhouse in TORONTO.....the lazy bimbo wasn't even there..the only real publicity this inept overmatched Ditz ever got here is when North proceeded to demolish her for a few days.

Telander, Lake Forest resident, is always good for a sociological column about the "unfairness of it all".

Rick Morrissey is hardly controversial.

Steve Rosenbloom wrote that great smart assed column for a few years in the Trib, but he surely ruffled so many feathers he was sent to the Poker tour. :(

None of those guys compare to Norman Chad. (The guy is funny.)

I agree with you Bob, he can stir it up. Chicago has the worst columnists in any major city. Telander sucks, MacNeil-now that's a joke, North - a column by an illiterate, Slezak -just awful, Morrissey-useless, I can't even name any others they are so insignificant.
Can't wait for Jay to chime in on North, that will be a fun read!

As a Sox fan, it doesn't get much better than have Mariotti fire missiles at Reinsdorf, Ozzie and bullshit artist Hawkeroo!!!!!

Didnt Eddie Munster tell us that newspapers were dead?

ohh I see the tribune has such a kick ass web presence, sooo much better than the sun times.

What a self-aggrandizing prick, maybe he can grow some stones and show his face in the pressbox now.....

that probably wont happen, because the guy is such a candy ass he is scared of Rick Telander.

Jay is who he is, the same nervous guy who was getting footballs thrown at his pecker in high school. Not that I have any love with the jockocracy of sport, but if this guy was a "Chicago" columnist, he would show his face in the pressbox, get the tribs meanest lawyer with him and ask the tough question to the face of those who mock him by pantomiming ass rape (Ozzie).

That's OK. Don't renew after the 3 months, and you'll be a contributer to the "subscriptions have dropped since Mariotti came on board" story.

I am shocked how many people are excited by this. I'm relatively new to this board, but I always thought everyone everywhere else hated Mariotti.

It is quite simple....have any of your friends or co-workers ever asked you or called you up and asked you about a column that Rick Morrissey, Carol Slezak or Rick Telander wrote that morning?

Mariotti does his damned job and does it well........he sure as hell gets a reaction.

Or read the Sun Times and marvel at the wisdom of Carol Slezak and Rick Telander.
The damned truth is that DANNY MAC HAS THE MOST TOPICAL COLUMN IN THE PAPER......

I'll be honest. I don't know that I've ever read one of his columns. Probably a couple times in a waiting room. I've always been a Tribune guy.

But, I've hated just about every opportunity I've had to watch or listen to the guy and I have no interest in reading anything he would write.

Come on now Dr. Ken, I expect better of you around here. If you have not read his columns, how do you know you would not like them? I am not a big Mariotti guy, but I would much rather read him than watch or listen to him.

Post subject:  Re: Jay Mariotti to the Tribune September 1

I thought I was pretty clear. I figured I wouldn't like reading what he writes based on watching and listening to him.

Never is an exaggeration. I've read a few columns over the years and found him to be trying too hard. I've certainly never read him on any regular basis, probably once or twice a year and I found his other media work vomit-inducing.

I've been exposed to the news he's manufactured around himself but that was usually White Sox related and held very little interest for me.
