I work in the newspaper industry and I know we have our troubles and obstacles.

The other day I heard the great Mike Murphy blather on how newspapers are a dying industry. He said it over and over. He even went so far as to say that Sam Smith was doing "sports talk radio" in the paper when putting forth a trade. Of course, Murph didn't point out that newspapers were doing that long before Chet Coppock or Chuck Swirsky drew their first breaths in Chicago.

What really peeves me is that 75 percent of this guys show is taken from the newspaper -- the dying industry. If this is such a dying industry, why is his show so dependent on it? When leaded gas was on the way out, did some car companies just keep using that product on the decline or did they go in another direction?

IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE NEWSPAPER, MURPH WOULDN'T HAVE A SHOW. Condensed columns, ideas, Barry Rozner, etc. Every day, every hour he extracts something out of the newspaper -- the dying industry.

I am not advocating the death of newspapers but ...

What I have to chuckle about is that he even does that badly. I happened to listen one day last week while (s)Murf was ranting about Konerko "refusing to be captain of the White Sox" based on a column in the Trib. That was until a caller pointed out that the Sun-Times was reporting that all Konerko objected to was wearing the "C" on his uniform.

Splutter, splutter, backtrack, hem-haw & a hearty "We'll have to check that out" :-)

He's a dumbass that isn't a fan, just a blowhard with NO knowledge of anything. He must work VERY CHEAP, or he'd be unemployed. He is without doubt, the most unlikeable person on the air anywhere. He just plain sucks and adds nothing for two long hours. Thank God for XM and Sirius. He has no competetion with the god awful Dan Patrick show.
