Whether they are or not now, eight games behind the Cardinals in the National League East and seven in back of the Rockies for the wild card, they will have plenty of competition to re-sign Harden. At 27, his strong second half and career numbers should make him an attractive option in a relatively lean year for starters.

Hey great work for a guy who's been covering this team for what 6 years? Dumbass. I've always hated this bastard because he gives unwashed stoned hippies a bad name as we're not all curmudgeony and stupid like this asshat.

It's a contract year and Harden still won't pitch 180 innings. If someone is dumb enough to give him 4/$60M let them. I wouldn't bring him back for anything. Lilly is a free agent after next season. The cubs would be much smarter to sign him to an extension than sign Harden.

Actually I'm picking on him for saying the Cubs are behind the Cardinals in the NL East.
