After listening to every show today struggle with this Kane issue (right now B&B are guessing about dram shop actions), it is obvious that the Score needs to hire a reliable legal expert.

I don't know if Lester Munson is still around but he always liked to talk politics more than law anyway. Murph had a guy, Chris or Gus I think, who could be knowledgable on law. I suppose he's gone with Murph.

But why listen to hosts and callers guess all day long? Why not hire an authority on law, which comes up so often with athletes in their incidents, relationships, and contracts?

And while I'm at it, some retired referee to appear regularly to give some authority on the plays you know we'll be arguing about soon. I think Jerry Marcbreit appeared periodically a few years ago.

And a regular "capologist". So that when player movements are in the news somebody can explain what is possible and impossible.

Seems to me like something a major sports radio station should do.

Eldon Ham was the legal expert that Murphy had on before he left. Eldon was on Boers/Bernstein for a little bit, and then was on with Murphy for maybe 3 - 4 months before his summer break. They could use him back.

Murph's guy was Duke, Joe Crispino, I believe. He appeared as more of a handicapper than a lawyer though.

I remember Munson stating on B&B seveal years ago that race was the reason that a high school sports conference was separated into 2 divisions. His belief was the white schools couldn't compete with the black schools. The funny thing was, the "white league" still contained then #1 & minority laden Joliet township...which Lester somehow forgot to mention.

Steve Stone's wife is a lawyer, I believe--well, a divorce lawyer, but so what? Since Stone Pony is so well-respected by so many on this board, maybe the Score should sign his wife as well.

I'm a lawyer, but my specialty is Workers' Compensation. I do some PI as well and the occassional traffic/misdemeaner criminal, but I would say 95% of my work is comp. So, unless the Score has some legal questions about Comp I wouldn't be of any use as a legal expert. Maybe all these Cubs players with injuries would like to file comp claims against the Tribune Company? Now that's something I would love to get involved in!

in fact, I've always wondered why you never see pro athletes filing Comp claims. Probably because they are already rich and don't look at the relatively small comp recovery (compared to their salaries) as worth the hassle.

I imagine there is a language in the deals they sign that bars them from doing so. Instead, they sue. Didn't Bears have an ex-player who was suing them, their medical staff, and everyone else he could for some botched treatment? I want to say he was a G or OT.

You can't circumvent state law with an employment contract so that can't be it. Some entities are immune to Work Comp such as Chicago Police Department, but I doubt pro sports leagues were ever given that type of immuntity.

I bet its just a matter of the money. Unless someone has a serious career ending injury the recovery in Comp is a drop in the bucket compared to the salaries the players get.

I always thought Lester Munson was OK.....this "Legal Expert" stuff on criminal matters is usually 40% discussing facts in evidence and 60% speculation.

There was nothing more clueless than all of the "Legal Experts", especially law professors who don't know what a courtroom looks like other than on TV, all babbling during the O.J. Simpson travesty.

WGN-TV has Terry Sullivan......a long time Criminal Lawyer on both sides of the fence, and he is great on local trials...he knows the players, the facts and the theories both sides are putting in front of the juries.

I'm in your business and know you. I don't know what practice Munson had but he really talked just politics and influence and I don't think he understood either.

Remember Munson during the Tank Johnson sentencing? Johnson, on a weapons probation, never reported to probation, never paid his fees and fines, never did his anger management counseling, and gets a new weapons case. (I can't remeber if he was violating a curfew the night that Homey In The Basement got shot) Typical defendant, right?

Munson kept predicting a pat on the head and a second chance for Johnson, and only because he was a football player with a good lawyer.

Any judge in the County was going to send him. Moran gave him 120 days, I had thought it would come in at 60.

Maybe Munson knows about contracts, he sure doesn't know criminal law. Like you say, Terry Sullivan does know this stuff.

I am curious as to why some lawyer let Plaxico testify in front of a Grand Jury....Maybe the New York gun laws have no provision for probation for a first time numb nuts offender who shoots himself?

You know how Cook County works, and Moran was a fabulous Judge at 26th Street before he transferred to the Skokie Mall of Justice.....Out of Control Tank Johnson made himself a "heater" case...wonder how many lockdowns he got to experience in Division 1??????

Aggravated, you ever been in front of Judge Sacks? He's one of my dad's best friends since childhood..they still go fishing just about every summer.

I've never been in front of him, but I hear he doesn't take shit from nobody. I remember him getting in trouble a few years back for yelling and swearing at a defendant.


My cousin was a judge as well, retired though...Zissman. I don't know him too well.

I have been in front of Stan Sacks a lot.
He is a nice guy...gets carried away once in a while on the bench....was sent to anger management for berating a copper.....these jobs wear everyone out at 26th Street....being a Judge is a lonely existence...tell your Dad to get Stanley out fishing more often...there is always a jury to pick.
