All-Chet-Coppock-All-The-Time-In-Chetember continues: Looking for a good book to read??? By Pat Tomasulo If you watched our show at around 7:50 Friday, you witnessed one of the more awkward moments we've had in quite some time. Friend of the show (FOTS) Chet Coppock was on to plug his new book (the title of which conveniently escapes me at this time). I call Chet a FOTS because he's been an invited guest many times in the 4+ years I've been here. And each time, he and I have spoken in-depth, on- and off-camera, about sports, the business of sports broadcasting, and how much he enjoys the job I do on this show. So you can imagine my surprise when someone plopped a copy of his guaranteed best-seller on my desk, open to a passage in which Chet lists the best and worst local sports personalities of the last 25 years. At #2 on the "worst" list: PAT TOMASULO. What??? Wasn't I the "cat's meow?" The "Hulk Hogan of sportscasting?" Didn't he say I was "the tops," the "best of the best," and "Grade A???" Yes, he did. So did my grandfather . . . 20 years ago. When people still spoke like that. I'm sure many might rank me #1 on that "worst" list; a few might rank me #1 on the "best" list. But Chetster had never given me any criticism in the dozens of face-to-face meetings we'd had! All those times we invited him on the show, he'd gush about me! So I had to ask him about this list, on the air, in the middle of his guest segment. What ensued was an uncomfortable :30 - :45 of live television. I'm sorry for that I sat looking at him, with an expression that could be best described as a "glare," while he furiously backpedaled. When we went off air, he shook hands with Larry and Robin, said nothing to me, and walked off set. I'm not sure why. I suppose if our roles were reversed, I might be a little embarrassed. You know, here are these nice people who continually invite me on their TV show, even when no other stations are, even when their fans ask why they invite me on - not because they dislike me, but because they question my relevance. And I go and trash one of them! I guess I could have shared those feelings before they were the only TV crew in town that'd give me a chance to let people know I'm still around, and not until I decided writing a book would be the best way to remind them. But hey, I can't guess what Chet was thinking. He did preface in the book that he might make a lot of enemies by writing those lists. For the record, he hasn't made an enemy in me. I'll even continue to listen to him for the 12 weeks each year he's on local radio. But if he ever wants to come back on this show again, he needs to bring gifts, like . . . maybe a signed copy of his book? Think he'll have any left? |

Who the fuck does Pat Tomasulo think he is? He can't carry Chets jock strap. When Tomasulo has the carer resume that Chet does, then he can rag on Chet. What a tool. |

coppock is a washed out douchebag, he is the epitome of PTFB for me. I don't know who this guy is, but seems fair enough to complain that Chet would blow his dick to his face, and rip him behind his back. I'm glad that he made chet uncomfortable on tv, even though the old fuck doesn't need much help with that... |

Chet has had all of 2 hours of interesting radio in the last 10 years and it was the last day of Webio which was frickin hilarious and tragic all in one. I was actually going to post this when I saw it last week because it WAS 1 minute of hilarious television, but then I did was nos oughta do and thought better of it. But... It was funny. And Chet... wow dude. Looks enbalmed. And who's gonna buy this book INSIDE Chicago let alone anyone outside of the area who would have no clue who this windbag is? |

By the way, Is Tomasulo the little jerk who like in his first week on the job was narrating Cub-Cardinal highlights and couldn't even pronounce "Pujols" properly? I seem to remember someone on the Score ripping him for this. |

If two nobodies have a feud in a forest . . . Chet used to be relevant and is now a pathetic caricature of himself. He's a Saturday Night Live skit, a man whose day has come and gone. Even at his peak Chet came across as a guy more in love with his own voice than the people he was interviewing. Hearing him drone on and on when introducing some one was an instantaneous PTFB. Tomasulo, on the other hand, never has been and never will be relevant, unless of course he climbs a local water tower and starts picking off unsuspecting citizens. As a sports talking head on WGN's morning show he is unfunny and dull which makes it all the more irritating that he also exudes arrogance. A person with no talent and a face like Chim-Chim should NOT be arrogant. As for Tomasulo’s claim that “a few might rank me #1 on the "best" list,” I would like to meet the blind, deaf, brain damaged psychiatric patient that put him there so I could donate to his electroshock therapy fund. While Chet was indeed classless for basically being himself and ripping little Tommy without having the testicular fortitude to tell him the same thing face to face, Tomasulo is an idiot for believing anything that ole Chet ever lets out that old yap of his. Getting mad at Chet for that is akin to believing that a hooker loves you just because she blew you for twenty bucks. |
