The Score now has Monday and Thrusday NFL. Plus Depaul and Northern Illinois basketball. Having Depaul and NIU shows you that there is no money to be made in talk shows for sports stations at night. 6am-6pm is the only way sports talkers make money. The Score would sell their night air time to high school basketball if it were all they could get. They just want to fill up the time until the Sox start. Take whatever money they can get from Westwood one, Depaul and NIU.

This week they have 2 NFL games, a NIU game and a Depaul game.

Who does pxp for Northern Illinois? He sounds like a parody of a sportscaster. Hey, did anyone else watch WCW as a kid? Remember Lee Marshall? He sounds like that.

You can only TALK sports so much. At some point, you have to watch or listen to actual games in order to have something to talk about.

Personally, I'd rather watch the Clippers play Oklahoma City than listen to one of these second-string hosts (see the Matt Rodewald thread) fill air time with their bad radio (not that some of the the first-string hosts are that great, either) on nights and weekends. Since Day One, I've been a pretty big listener of the Score and MVP during the weekdays, but almost NEVER nights or weekends.

I would rather listen to Matt Spiegel than watch the Clippers -vs- Oky City...or any NBA game for that matter.

If the Score had people other than Holmes on at night I'd be disappointed, but such as it is, no big loss. Although I do spend a lot of time driving after 7PM so I listen to sports radio so more choice are better. If ESPN had Hood on every night I wouldn't even have to think about SCR. The worst though is Monday nights after a Bears Sunday game when I'm looking for some football talk after 7PM and ESPN has the Bulls, SCR has MNF, and WGN has either the Hawks or Northwestern hoops.

It's the end of the world as we know it--people would rather listen to sports TALK than sports events themselves. I give up.

If I wanted to see it I'd DVR it and wouldn't be listening to the radio anyway. I'll turn it on when I get home, unless it's the previously mentioned NIU or Northwestern college hoops, forget that.

Plus people just want to watch regular TV shows, news and porn at night. I don't care for the NBA anymore unless it's the Bulls. I don't even want to watch the entire Bulls game anymore. NBA games are always on ESPN and TNT. I skip right by it. I don't care about college football or basketball too much. Especially the regular season. I'll always watch an NFL game no matter who is playing.

OK, even so, that still makes my point valid--who the hell cares about sports talk radio at night with these second-string hosts?

Right. I never argued your point.

I liked when they had Doug and Hub do evenings, though "Chicago NFL Live" was kind of a clunky title.

Ask for Bearly Legal to be put on the air. You'll get quality interviews with former and current athletes and interesting banter.

I know it's the in thing to rip on Spada here, but if they stuck his show on the weekends it couldn't hurt. How bad could it be? I've never actually listened to it. If it's good enough for the Score to host the podcast, it can't be THAT bad. They ran Hampton & Holmes for 10 hours a week for several months.

Curious, his name is Bill Baker, who calls NIU football & basketball on the ISP Sports Network. Casey Koehler (if I misspelled his name I apologize) is the analyst. They have a game tonight at Illinois for the first time in NIU basketball history, but because 670 The SCORE is airing the DePaul/Columbia game at 8p from Allstate Arena, you can check out the game if you want on WIND 560 come 7p this eve from Champaign...or maybe not. I know Jason Goff was less than thrilled Friday. Bad voice and all, Goff was supposed to be on for an hour Friday night 9-10p on WSCR, but the NIU/Northwestern game ran late and ISP seemed to take its own sweet time breaking down a 22 point Huskie loss...

And if Spada wanted to pay more, I'm sure they would consider doing just that.
