I apologize in advanced, but I haven't kept up with all the posts in the OG thread... takes too much time to read through the whole entire thing. I browsed through the last few posts about him being gone at the end of Bulls season. I don't have much of an opinion on him... I probably wouldn't want to hear him in drivetime or during the days, but he doesn't bother me the way he does others.

Since I am too lazy to go back and read, hopefully someone will just answer the question. Has it been confirmed or has some insider actually said OG will be gone once the Bulls are done and out, or is it continued speculations? Honestly, would it surprise anyone if he still did Sportscenter updates after the Bulls are done?

He resighned yesterday. He has got 1 or 2 bulls games left and then he is going to be the Texas Rangers pre and post radio dude. This is not speculation. The OG announced it on the Bulls game yesterday.

From Feder today:

*After hosting his last Bulls' pre-game and post-game shows for ESPN Radio 1000 tonight, Mike Ogulnick is headed for KRLD-AM in Dallas. He's been hired as the Texas Rangers' pre-game and post-game host on the Rangers Radio Network."

I know he takes a lot of ribbing here, but I can honestly say I do not ever remember hearing the OG say anything. I know he has been on the air but it has had zero impact on me. I do congratulate him on the job. That is probably a good gig with a nice paycheck. Maybe we can get a feed of him on MLB radio sometime just to keep the OG thread active.

When I listen to a Bulls pre/post game show, the guy is fine...He's not on enough to really have a strong opinion on.

I had a subscription last year. They start the feed only in the middle of the pre-game and cut shortly after the last out. So, The OG Show won't get much of a chance unless they change the format this year and officially include the pre- and post- game shows in the broadcast.

Um, nice paycheck? Reading other posts on Dolgin/Jesse/Rongey, it seems like the White Sox do not pay their pre-game hosts much money. This is Chicago, a huge market, what do you actually think they pay down in Texas? Granted, money goes a lot further, but if he's making more than $35,000 I'd be shocked. And he has to relocate his family. A liberal, whiny, jewish family living in Texas.....GOOD LUCK!

Could they pay really be that low? I figured it was a 100K salary minimum. I think the in game hosts are in the 200's so I would think a person who is the lead in to that product would be no less than half.

I think the pay has to be in the 30-40K area. If it's as high as 100K, there's no way Rongey would've gotten the job (he's a nobody after all, though I think he's got potential)--somebody else at the station with more senority but a smaller salary like Ofman, Holmes, Olken or Rogers would've taken it.

Ouch. So a person who has to work late most nights and every weekend during the summer months only pulls in 30-40K? Even at 40K that is less than $250 a show and it is preety much an 8 hour shift.

I don't know how anyone goes into the radio industry. You start off you career having to work for free until you find someone to give you a job that pays you minimum wage. From there you can expect a big bump up to $20,000 and if you really do well you might make 50,000. Meanwhile, the union engineers at the station are probably making 75,000 to tell you that something does not work.

I know what he'll be making (no I'm not telling you) and you would be shocked (electric shock preferably). He deserves every penny. His liberal, whiny, Jewish family will do great in Texas. He's got a much better job and he's rid of all you asswipes.

Thanks everyone for your support. It's gonna be a tough move for my family to make, but since I burned every bridge here in Chicago, I had no choice but to look for work outside the market. I'm told that $35,000 goes really far in Texas, but given that I always feel I'm entitled to something better, I'm sure I won't have this job for more than 1 baseball season. Oh well, maybe when Neil Funk retires I'll get that Bulls play by play job I've been telling people I deserve. Anyways, I'll keep you all posted on everything. I'm taking Robert Feder's e-mail address with me to Texas, so like I always do, I'll e-mail him to get some pub this summer. Thanks again. I wish it hadn't come to this. I thought for sure when I went to the ESPN bosses and told them I'd be a much better 9-noon host than Silvy and Carmen, they'd understand, and sign me to that big contract I'm entitled to. Gee, I'll miss everyone. Goodbye.

With rare exceptions like sexual predators and serial killers, I think most people are entitled to a fresh start. He was a tool, but I wish him no ill will in Texas...

First of all, the person who posted as Mike Ogulnick isn't Mike Ogulnick because I am. As much as few will believe this, this is my first post on this site in several months. None of those posts defending me were me.

Having said that, I do appreciate those who enjoyed my work, and even those who didn't. Some of you got a little vindictive and personal, but that's ok.

I am moving to Dallas because this is an incredible opportunity for me. I am one of 30 people in the world who are part of a major league baseball broadcast team. You can draw your own conclusions, but I'm pretty proud of that.

I'll miss Chicago tremendously, since I've lived here all my life, but I'm looking forward to a fresh start in the number 5 market in the country.

Tick...tick...tick...I'm broadcasting for a major league baseball team.

OG

If it was a good job, why was it filled 10 days before the season opener, alot of people must have turned it down.

At least it is a little step up from Waukegan radio and Wisconsin high school baskeball.

Lets not get too carried away with how wonderful we are. You arent doing play by play, its pre & post. I wish you the best of luck, but the overall cocky attitude about your "talent" I will never understand.

Interesting OG, with all your years of experience; you have to leave town and take a job that is usually filled by losers like Jesse Rogers or young guys trying to move up like Rongey and Dolgin.

Your inapproriate political comments and documented professional bitterness and jealousy will get you fired in Dallas. Hope you did not burn any bridges in Waukegan.

How's the internet radio show going Jerry?

Does anyone else listen other than your relatives?

That's right! Tick....tick....tick....I'm doing major league baseball on a news station that ranks 20th in the market. Plus, we only trail the ABC news station by 2.6 in the ratings. I'm sure my arrival, coupled with the powerful midday line-up of the Jay Mcfarland Show and Erine Brown Show, we'll rise to the top in Dallas! Suckers! I don't have to tell you that all the ESPN 1000 staffers were pretty broken up at my going away party. Oh wait, I didn't have a going away party. Typical, all those losers at WMVP are jealous. Why else would Mac, Jurko, Harry, Neil Funk, Bill Wennington and Silvy completely rip me on my last day. It's not like I'm a total no talent, spineless douchebag. Wait a minute, yes I am!

Ah, Jalen, at least you're consistent. Allow me to let you in on something. I beat out over 100 people for this job. The reason it was offered to me so late is because they only received my demo tape about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Had they received it earlier, I was told, their first call would have been to me.

Riles talks about my ego. Well, Riles, I do think I have talent, but my ego pales in comparison with others I've worked with. If you don't believe you can make it in this business, you'll get eaten alive.

Also, as much as you may want to think otherwise, this is not a position that goes to beginners. Is it play-by-play? No, but it's a pretty good job which very few other people have.

Mike, learn from the last post made by Womensbikeseatsniffer. No matter how hard you try, you can't talk reason to idiots. So why bother? Just go to Texas and do the best job you can. Don't look back. Keep moving forward.
