I decided to give Larry a chance since many of you have said that he's better working in the evening without a cohost. His show is brutal. He is the worst host on the Score. Everything about seems amateur. He would be the worst host in Chicago if Harry and Carmen died. It grinds my gears to see talent like Goff and drinky not getting airtime with this clown on the air. When I hear Larry on the radio, one image pops in my mind: |

I've been saying it for a while, he's a really easy listen when he's on by himself at night. He usually doesn't have earth shattering insights, but it's a comfortable listen and I enjoy him solo. Count me in as a founding member of the Larry ALS I suppose. |

Everytime I hear him, he seems to go out of his way to be a complete ass to his callers. |

Occasionally he's a decent listen, but I agree he's better off by himself. |

Holmes has proven himself to be an unnecessary prick at times. Instead of sitting back and letting the call unfold, like he did with Jeff "No Rats" back on 1/12, he too often chooses to be confrontational and takes it as a compliment to be a Bernstein-like jag-off. I could probably handle this 'tude if he were to really let his thought progression go to the next logical step (a la Bernstein) but he seems either unwilling or incapable of achieving this. Murphy kept it simple to fit his kitschy schtick, Williams did so just for the sake of simplicity (allow the caller to make the leap). Holmes seems to keep it simple because having gotten approval from Dan & Terry he feels he's gone as far as necessary, and yet when a caller attempts to go to the next logical step, Holmes will repeat that step with an air of skepticism or disdain. Of all the solo shows, his sounds like its less about the callers and more about himself. IMHO, he's an intellectual lightweight and simply parrots the less appealing aspects of Bernstein. . . . and yes, I exercise the the PTFB option frequently. |
