Just said at the end of Mully and Hanley. Moving on to greener pastures apparently. Not official until SHARK verifies of course.

This might pave the way for a J Hood return.

Hood and Bernstein has been and would be an excellent pairing. The NBA fans would love the show.

Mac/Speigs chatting on this momentarily.

How unfortunate that our guy Beardown is not hear to give us the real scoop plus his future predictions.

Curious Hair, can we send out that Beardown signal again? It seemed to work.

Is it wrong to think that this position should be phased out entirely? I mean really what exactly does a program director do that the GM shouldn't be already?

Or am I risking the scourge of middle managers everywhere?

What's not needed is a Sports Director at a sports radio station. I don't want this position to go away though, because it means that's one more person who isn't out of work.

Little snippet from Mac's show at 12:46 PM.

Most of Drew's time spent working on 670thescore.com. He is going to WLS. 8 years ago he honestly told Spiegel that he should go explore options elsewhere as he wasn't getting a shot at WSCR (Spiegs appreciated the honesty...). Mac thinks he will be a good guy to have a beer with at a hawks game.

Has anyone been able to determine exactly why Murph is still listed on the WSCR web site as a host? Can any of the Score guys who are members of this board comment?

Yes, Drew Hayes has actually left WSCR 670 The SCORE & WBBM Newsradio 780 as Operations Director of the two CBS Radio stations to take over as new Operations Director at "The Big 89" WLS-AM. Contrary to what was initially reported, he's NOT the new Program Director at WLS. It's actually Drew's second tour of duty at WLS, where he was one of the first programmers of 890 AM's all-talk lineup about 2 decades ago. Yeah, it's been that long...Drew starts his new gig Friday, where Michael Damsky has just taken over as new V.P. & General Manager of both WLS-AM & 94.7 WLS-FM "True Oldies."

Drew is the one responsible for putting Roe & Garry together, so he did one good thing. Bilbo Baggins....we hardly knew ye.

So does this mean that 94.7 is soon to go sports format like that other story hinted?

If so, they should pluck somebody from this site to host the midday show to be Mike North: The Next Generation.

Sorry, Doc...94.7 WLS-FM isn't dumping "True Oldies" and the likes of Scott Shannon, Greg Brown, Dick Biondi & Danny Lake anytime soon.

Wow

Terry Boers goes all gushy over Drew. Says anytime he is in the building he is the best talk show host there. It is unfortunate for us that Beardown is missing this day.

Drew Hayes was not just a programmer, Beni. When WSCR 670 was known as WMAQ during its all talk heyday in the mid to late '80s, Drew actually hosted morning drive on the station...

Yup, and Terry loved him too. Terry also apparently loved the disagree with management angle and Drew was a constant foil. Drew over the years has attempted, but never successfully, tried to hire for 3 other opportunities. Good idea for Terry to butter up Drew out the door. You never know when you need an opportunity elsewhere to help with a contract dispute.

I saw Office Space for the first time yesterday and thought it was pretty funny. It was edited though because it was on E! I'll have to pick up the DVD.

Yeah, they had to dub the swear words, even though it's cable and satellite when E! aired the Ron Livingston/Jennifer Aniston/Gary Cole comedy as one of its "Movies We Love" series.

You want Beardown, have Drinky or Goff post an insult concerning him. He'll show up.

The Sports Director at WSCR is the guy who manages the reporters and the update guys. About now... aren't they all Shadow Traffic people? Shark, do you know?

[edit] Forgot the third thing to comment on. Mac said something odd about how they can't mention the other host who was moved aside when Mac/Spiegle took the mid day slot. This while speaking of LoHo and Hampton. Meaning what? Don't know. Maybe Murph's going to pursue some wrongful termination path, and they don't anyone on-air giving him more ammo. Presumably, B&B's past tirades about him, should Murph grabbed the podcasts of them, might make for interesting situation. But that's all conjecture on my part...

Let me deal with the third part of Beebo's rant first. Mac & Spiegs, along with "Boers & Bernstein", briefly mentioned Drew Hayes leaving for "The Big 89" WLS-AM to become the new Operations Director. I know that Mac didn't mention Mike Murphy by name when mentioning the shows that "The Danny Mac Show" preceded on 670 The SCORE & 670thescore.com. I remember Mac had less than kind words to say about Murph when Danny was down the dial with Jurko & Harry. I know that Boers and Murph haven't exactly been on speaking terms either, even before Mac re-joined WSCR last spring.

I know that Shadow Traffic does more than just traffic. In addition to merging with Metro Traffic a few years ago, Shadow & Metro team up to provide news & sports, not just on radio stations, but on TV as well. I'm reasonably sure that Matt Rodewald, part time sports anchor/host at WSCR and full-time traffic guy on NBC5's local version of "The Today Show", is such an example of someone who is technically employed by Shadow/Metro, but provides services to both NBC5 & SportsRadio 670. Something else to consider, Shadow is actually part of Westwood One, which is also the syndication arm of CBS. If you're confused after all that, you're not alone. Trying to explain all that is enough to give everybody a headache...

Last but not least, Chris Collins is the SCORE's Sports Director. He might be the one to inquire about update anchor & reporter assignments on the radio station...

Post subject:  Re: Drew Hayes out as Program Director?

Last I heard, Zack and Dave Kerner are Shadow guys. Which is how they "traded" the two between 'BBM and WSCR.

It doesn't quite make much sense to be asked not to mention Murph by name. After all, his ads still run on the station where he identifies who he is. Unless they want to prevent a diatribe from starting.

Mac I think has treated Murph fairly since coming back. But he *does* talk about him from time to time.
