Gotta love an introductory press release that's replete with grammatical errors. I guess news about the OG doesn't merit proofreading.

Mike Ogulnick comes to KRLD from Chicago where he spend the last season as the pregame & postgame host for the Chicago Bulls. He also worked at the Bulls flagship station, ESPN 1000, as a host and anchor. Before that, Mike spend eight years with Sporting News Radio, where he worked along side such radio giants as Chris Schneider.

Nice proof reading... it should be 'spent'.

OG is the lovechild of former Soviet leader Breshnev and an ass face:

Damn I'm one mean spirited SOB.

He threw his teammates at ESPN1000 under the bus to make himself sound better, so screw him and the horse he road in on.

Having witnessed it first hand, I can tell you that the OG f&%ked people over about half as much as others did. It's a cut throat business made up up egomaniacs that consistantly talk out of both sides of their mouths. Please...there's not a person there that wouldn't push their own mothers under the bus if it meant an opportunity for themselves. You're all fools if you think otherwise.

Sorry Beef...not the OG. Just someone who saw this play out up close and in person. It's no different at the Score or any other sports talk around the country. Everyone is always looking for a leg up on their "teammates". There's more talking behind peoples backs in this business than anything you can imagine. Not defending Ogulnick, just speaking the truth.

I believe you. No doubt that many people probably do. But OG probably did a worse job at doing it than others, and probably got caught one too many times.

And you know that some of his biggest detractors, are much bigger backstabbers.

I didn't care for the his on-air voice or pompous attitude on the air. I also don't care to hear his political rants either.

But the fact is many lower level on-air talent felt threatened by him. You are supposed to get ahead by kissing ass and being an apologist for those with daily shows. Sound familiar? Just like many on this board kiss ass on hosts and act as their apologists. ( See smelly fingers, et al.)

There are three points I'd like to address with regard to this, Seacrest, the first of which was already taken care of by A7X, so we don't need to get into that.

Secondly, you act like this is a claim that I'm going to dispute or get defensive over. I've given the title to myself in sarcasm because anyone who defends any show gets called an "apologist" by someone. I find it very ironic that one of the primary complaints about Boers and Bernstein is that they're too negative, yet every show on either station is set ablaze by someone, if not many many people here. I rarely comment on show content anymore, just because it's bound to rile someone up and incite them to write a manifesto on why I'm wrong and the show I like sucks , or get myself flamed. No one here should have the time or need for either. Fortunately for you I'm really bored and decided to write somewhat of a manifesto of my own this evening.

Lastly, I'd also like to ask how it is I'm scheming to "get ahead" either in the radio business or on this board by doing whatever the hell it is I'm doing. Yes, as I've said before, I was heavily involved in work in student radio in my years at college, but that was strictly for fun, and it had nothing to do with my intended career path. And if you meant getting "ahead" here on the board, well, then you really must not think too highly of me to think that I'm doing this to have people I've never met on the internet like me.

Besides, everyone knows that's what MySpace is for anyway, right Ugueth, Al, Doug (and Drinky, too, apparently)? :)

Three points about OG:

1) He's taken a pretty good pounding on air and off for his behavior, including business-related e-mails about making Texas a two-year stop.
It is ironic that he would send the other e-mail about JD and Hood after witnessing Hood's fate at SCR from similar missteps.

Radio is cutthroat, I agree. But at the same time, there are ways to be civil, to behave in a respectable way. Based on the comments posted here from OG's friends and family, based on OG's own e-mails, and based on the on-air comments from his colleagues, it's apparent OG did nothing to quash the fire. He might have made a decision to lay low for a long while, and let old incidents die down. But it appeared (to an outside observer) to be one thing after another. Perhaps this was intentionally done (see #2)?

2) You have to wonder about the various incidents at SNR. Were they done to gain an "out" to pursue MVP? Were all these incidents at MVP to get an "out" to pursue something else? Or did OG not learn from SNR, from J-Hood, from previous firestorms at MVP (or is "firestorms" too strong)?

3) Will OG ever resurface in Chicago radio again? In my humble opinion, OG was far from being the worst on Chicago sports stations (North has to be on the list of the worst, with Zaidman, Holmes with a whopping zero breaking stories, Arkush, and several others joining him). Might he have been one of the worst co-workers? Only those who actually worked with him can answer that. But maybe he finally incinerated the last couple of bridges to get back here. Your thoughts?

The OG made a lot of mistakes, mostly surrounding his inability to keep his thoughts and beliefs to himself. For someone so wrapped up in politics, he was not very politically savvy. In reality, he's not a bad guy. Keeps his nose clean and is very devoted to his family. He also has as much, or more, talent than many poeple in this market. He's just a guy that doesn't know how to play the game and one that doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. Maybe Texas offers him a chance at a fresh start.

Instead of ass face I would think one of his love parents should be one of the "grey" aliens. Maybe OG is the product of a human alien husbandry experiment.

I agree that OG gets a lot of shit here. I always thought that the people who posted about him are likely to be co workers rather than listeners.

OG-defenders continue to spew this falsehood without backing up their statement. I'd like to see some support for it, quite frankly.

I agree that OG speaks and reads ad copy clearly, but other than those attributes, I don't think he offers much. As a pre- and post-game host for the Bulls, he turned a show that should've focused on the team into a failed comic routine focusing on himself. His talk shows offered more of the same--lame comedy coupled with uninteresting topics and discussions. In my view, OG amounts to nothing more than a sports automaton--he can read from scripts or teleprompters quite well, but if you let him improvise even a little, disaster follows. He is not, in short, a major radio talent--nor does he possess more talent than "many" of his former broadcasting peers.

Of the regular weekday hosts working on WSCR and MVP, he clearly surpasses only Anne Maxfield in pure talent (and her case is anomalous to begin with). As far as weekend and fill-in hosts go, again, he rises above only one or two: Jesse Rogers and possibly Jason Goff, although Goff strikes me more as raw and unpolished than entirely devoid of talent.

I'm not here to debate the talents of Ogulnick since there really is no right or wrong. It all comes down to personal preference. Some people liked him, some didn't. Some like Mac, others don't. Some like J Hood, others don't. And so on and so forth. And you know what...it doesn't matter and more. He's gone and we don't have to waste our time talking about him.

The point, though, is that if OG displayed the talent or following of a Mike North, Dan Bernstein, or Dan McNeil, his impolitic behavior would have little, if any, impact on his career.

Since he is apparently regarded as a marginal talent who possesses an odious personality, he got his walking papers.

Tall Midget, sorry but I really must give you a royal "Who You Crappin" for squeezing that one in. What "talent" does Mike North have? He croons off-key like a dog in heat to a couple of crappy songs by Shakey, lets them sit for a decade, then decides to put them on a CD which sold 3 copies.

His talent is dropping as many names as Ed Farmer. He's a giant tool who had the "talent" enough to destroy WSCR.

:D :D

I said "talent or following"--meaning that OG has neither, while North has at least one of the two.

Tall Midget, hard to dispute your point. I guess when it's all said and done the proof is in who's on the air. Ogulnick seems to have the pipes and the knowledge, maybe if he didn't take himself so damn seriously he would have had a little more success in this market. Still, he's got a family to support and I wish him well in Texas. On to the next subject.......
