Before I jumped on the Sox bandwagon, I didn't hear Farmer much and thought he was funny. I think the right word is acerbic, you know: cutting, sarcastic, and bitter. A bit unusual in a sports booth, except for Stone toward the end.

Now that I'm hearing him more he just seems like a jagoff. This is a tough first job for Singleton. They were obviously uncomfortable today about some nonsense about who got to the booth first and who abandoned who. Farmer not letting it die. Singleton trying to be cheery about it.

When he turns that bitter attitude out against the opposition, umps, fans, whatever, it's funny. If he spends the next 160 games making Singleton uncomfortable I'm not going to like the broadcasts much.

Stone never did it to Chip Carey. Harrelson has done it to DJ, but only in spots. And Harrelson wound up defending himself at one point about squabbling with DJ by saying what great off-air buddies they were. Harrelson eased off after that.

I just don't like squabbling. Do you guys notice this developing? Or maybe even like Farmer's broadcast?

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. The greatest trick Ed Farmer ever pulled was convincing the White Sox he could do play by play.

Farmer is just one of those guys that thinks he's funny. He often tries to tell stories over the air so he can develop a personal relationship with the listener. But they are dumb uninteresting stories. Farmer is just a baseball guy. There is really nothing more to him. He does come across as a jag. This radio team has to be the worst in MLB.

I don't believe for one second that Hawk and DJ are good buddies.

What a throbing dildo Farmer is.. I turned on the Score to hear a bit of the game today and the STU-NOD is describing in detail, how many diamonds are in the Sox rings and how much it weighs and what color they are..While the friggen game is going on ..It's radio you ass-wipe and I want to hear wants going on, on the field.. You can read me the Tiffany catalog after the game..

John Rooney was not treated well by the Sox and like the Bears radio team it's a hard listen for me.. I feel bad for Pat Foley in where he is the best talent no one cares about in this town .

It just goes to show you that just because you used to play in the league doesn't mean you should be allowed to be a play-by-play commentator. Anyone who has read my past posts about these two clowns knows what my feelings are towards them, and hopefully now that the regular season has started more people will make AM670 aware of how horrible these two guys really are.

Really? Any further insight on that comment??

Rooney's departure was not about $$$ or the way he was treated, it was about wanting to work in St. Louis and NOT wanting to work for WSCR.

I liked Rooney and thought he was one of the best play by play guys. But i just don't think he wanted to be here anymore. I think it was that simple. Ofcourse if they through alot of money at him he would have stayed. But if the money was equal he has always wanted to go back to Misouri.

When I read the title of this thread I thought somebody had some inside info on Singleton and Farmer on Road trips in the hotel room.

I think Joe Carter proved this to everyone a while ago. "How's Pete Rozelle these days?"

Beardown,

I don't believe it either. Hawk said something about how they tee up every morning and what great friends they are on the golf course. DJ confirmed that everything was just great betwen them. It came after that "can of corn", "why don't you think of something" incident.

But Hawk did relax a bit and that's all I need. They don't have to really like each other. I just want peace in booth. Especially in baseball. In 16 games of football, these conflicts don't mean much.

If I hear Farmer ask Singleton "how's the scoresheet looking" or "it's harder to keep score and call the game ain't it", I am going to scream.

Aren't those questions to be saved for the commercial breaks? I can only imagine what their conversations are off air.

At times, Singleton seems nervous and acts like he is reading things for the first time live on the air(ya think).

Nothing like getting to takeover a radio booth and treating the new guy like he doesn't belong there.

Stay classy Farmio!

Actually, I was told by a good source that it WAS about the money. He wanted to stay here, but the money sucked. It's a shame, he is one of the best in the game.

Today, listened to Singelton doing play by play, it was brutal.

Kind of an insult to the fans, having a total beginer do play by play for a World Champion.

At least WGN does not have Santo doing play by play

I've actually heard Santo do play by play a couple of times when Pat has been late getting back to the booth after a break. It went a little something like this:

"Okay...um...welcome...um...back [ dead air ] ......strike.........to...um....the mets batter.......um...... [dead air ].....patrick!...where have you been.

I was never a huge Rooney and Farmer fan (not a Sox fan in fact) but they were so much better than what is on the score now.
How could anyone hire Singleton, he's atrocious. I know its early but he has no real opinions or personality on air. Its the typically ex jock who doesnt want to offend any of his past peers and needs to have radio seasoning before announcing the world series champions games. Sox fans deserve better than an amateur.

Abbatacola is not your best source on anything other than mean, bitter hosts and a lot of lame gay jokes.

Well... you are my new hero. And who wouldn't want to stalk a guy who is madly in love with drinky. Who does karaoke with him. I mean, what could be neater than all that.

Thanks for again for sharing.

You know Rooney's friend, we're happy for you. The Cardinals were still his dream job, no secret, just like when he wanted it when it opened up years ago. Don't have the 'inside' to know about the money, but know St. Louis is a team he would've left the Sox for

Plus, last time I heard, the Score is the one who hires the commentators, so quit pounding the Sox. No surprise to me that Rooney still does interviews on WMVP

I believe you are wrong. The broadcasters are on the team's payroll, not the station's.

I think Ed Farmer would be best served roaming around Wrigleyville trying to harvest organs. I'm sure there are quite a few fellas that would get Farmio drunk and then acquiesce by giving him an organ up close and personal.
