Ok, I know he's a jackass to his producers, he's sometimes a jackass to the callers, and I've had a run in with him when he was over at WLS (i posted about this a long tiem ago here). BUT..............

he talks sports! Thats one thing I like about him. I like his baseball expertise too. Being out of town, it is nice to hear some real chicago baseball from time to time. Got to admit, Bruce Levin on am1000 is 10x better, but keep murph, he's not too bad as a radio host.

What? Are you kidding me? Just because he professes his love for the Cubs on a daily basis doesnt mean he has a clue how the game of baseball works. I have detailed numerous times, flat out wrong and crazy analysis by Murph on at least 5 occasions. If you know baseball so well you dont have trouble describing a balk, or a drop third strike rule as he has in the past.

Get the f off the air.

I agree with the original poster. Doesn't talk down to callers, listens to what the caller has to say, can be funny, and my favorite, is that his main subject is baseball, expertise or not. North is far from an expert on any sport, and the last time I checked he was talking politics. Guess people don't mind the racism and lame attempts at poking fun at sensitive subjects to try and get ratings. Throw in the salary... Boers and Bernstein I like, but they love to mix in political things as well, and come off as assholes in their "what we are saying is right and if you disagree at all then you are an idiot" moments when they talk down to callers. Not to mention they are very hypocritical. Mulligan and the rest of the fill ins will have to mention football in all their shows, zzzzz

Everyone is saying how the article and transition proves 'that Murph is a piece of shit'. Why because he used the finger? Oooo big deal, as if you love everyone at your workplace. Today he was obviously peeved about Mulligan talking in a public medium of an issue that was thought to be over with, so he confronted him on the public medium of radio about it. Both are best off handling it in private and having that be their business, but the newspaper article changed that.

I don't know the full story with all the feuds, but have heard about the Cubs interview and issue Boers. They were picking on him and he got pissed about it, just as Boers becomes defensive if anyone comes close to criticisizing him. I've heard Boers and Macneil acting as if they were the biggest douchebags in the world, so I don't know if I'm going to hate Murph because of how either of them value another human being. And please Boers, don't give me this shit about honesty. All that coming from the same pussy who created 'Larry Horse' because he was too scared to criticize someone in an interview, just like how every question is prefaced by 'well, I don't really know anything because I'm a dope, but others have said...'

Murph may be an asshole and douchebag as well, I dont know much about him, but I don't care. I know that I don't hear it translate to the callers and try to tune in to hear the callers discuss baseball. If you hate him because he moslty talks Cubs, that's one thing. I know it usually gets steered to the Cubs somehow, but I'm a Sox fan, and enjoy the segments that focus on the Sox and the discussions with Offman or Stone. I just know he's well prepared, it's better than the alternative of Dan Patrick, and I usually enjoy the show. If it goes too much towards the Cub or becomes lame, a simple touch of a button changes it, don't take it to the point of hoping he gets fired or as once read on here, someone actually wished death upon him, which is just sick, for both that thought and how bad that person's life must be.

Smurph has frequently used transition to make his disputes public, right? What's the difference if Murph initiates it or if Mully does? From the sounds of it, Greenstein called Mully about it...and Mully evidently asked his superiors (remember, he said he "was told to tell the truth").

Regardless, it was some of the most uncomfortable radio I've heard... :P

That comment was for GUEST's post. I do think that Murph lied about not giving the bird however. Mac and an unknown source claimed he did it on two occasions. He didn't need to apologize for that. It was no big deal. Plus he admits to giving Mully a nasty phone call after saying that giving the bird was reprehensible. Like the former is any better. I think Murph was trying to save face after waking up to that article. He probrally is worried about his job status and he panicked. But hey he made his bed so he has to sleep in it. Other job opportunities are doubtful.

ESPN 1000- Not likely with mac there.

WGN- Not after years of abusing McFail and tribune company.

WLS- Doubt he has any old buddies there after working there 15 years ago. Plus they don't do sports shows anymore.

Not to mention that every program director in the city read that article and would not want to take him on with all of that baggage.

Look for Murph to offer an apology tomorrow. He won't want too and he'll have to fake sincerity but I think he wants to save his career and will sacrafice his career to do so. But it might be to late.

I chalk this up under Terry's comedy bits, not being scared. The guy's name is Larry Horse. Larry Horse, that's the bit. It'd be one thing if he said, "Dick Johnson, our program director, is a big fan of your team and he thinks your roster sucks." While still probably amusing, it's not quite "Larry Horse". And besides, you can't talk to people like that and not expect to start fights or get hung up on. Can you imagine if Terry pulled that shit directly with a guest?

Dan: And now joining the Boers & Bernstein program, Indiana University head coach Mike Davis...

coach: Hey guys, good to talk to you...

Terry: Okay, coach, I don't wanna beat around the bush here, so I'll just tell you like it is. Your team blows...

coach: Excuse me?

Terry: That's right. Your team blows. Any comment on that?

coach: I think we're done here. click. silence.

Terry: Well, just as I suspected. He doesn't know what the hell he's doing down there...

I must have posted the story as 'guest' when that was allowed here.

anyway, here is what happened.

I was 18-19 when Murph started on WLS and he had a gig at the local mall. So I was a fan of his show and drove out in a bad sleet storm to go meet him and see his show from the mall since he was broadcasting from there.

Anyway, I get there and Murph already has a pissed off attitude. There are all these old people around him and he's talking to them so I go up there and say Hi Murph, I'm a fan of your show, it's nice meeting you. The guy turns out to be a REAL TOOL and just gives me a stare and ignores me and talks with his 60something buddies.

Naturally I was pissed. I spent all that time driving in sleet storm and gas money to meet this guy and he turned out to be a total jerkoff.

Wow I can't believe you guys found it, thats great!

Well ya, that was like 17 years ago, so I've forgiven him. I dont live in chitown any longer so I do enjoy his show because it's the only time I can hear some chicago baseball. Maybe If i was in chitown I would feel the same as you. Guy's probably a bigger jerk now then before.

I got a 2nd story that involves an argument between murph and my brother back in around 94. Murph was doing his 69 cubs love bit and how that was the greatest cubs team ever in the last 25 years. My bro called and was telling murph that the 84 cubs were also a great team and were in the hearts of many Chicagoans since they really brought the cubs back from the dead in the media's and fan's eyes. Of course, you can't say anything that can offend murph's 69 cubs right? Murph goes on about how the 84 cubs were no where close to the 69 cubs, that how this and that and those were weak players or not as appealing personalities blah blah blah. Anyway, my bro got pissed at him and said at least the 84 cubs WON SOMETHING! Of course murph cuts him off the air before it gets on the radiowaves.

Shit, just typing that 2nd story pissed me off, what a f'n wanker murph's always been.

Anyway, those 69 CUBS are the most worthless team in the history of baseball. If those bums won the World Series in 69, they wouldn't be half as famous as they are today for choking that season away. And Murph is the #1 loser for being their #1 fan. Yes I am a cubs fan, but don't let me even start on Ron Santo, #1 clown of the 69 cubs. That guy personifies Cubs Loserdom through and through. If I was running the cubs, I would have no one from that 69 team even step foot in wrigley. If i wanted to build a WINNER (keyword), I would stop having anyone representing that loser tradition that personfies the cubs and especially that 69 team!

ok enough of the rant....i take my peition back.

Hawaii, thanks for the stories. It's nice to get some historical depth and perspective on Murph's douchebaginess.

The 69 Cubs, the world's most famous (and profitable) losers. Maybe if that team hadn't spent so much time reading their headlines and drinking after day games, they would have won something.
