The inside scoop is that Mike North has worn out his welcome again at another media outlet. Mike is placing some blame in the lap of the sales people who are not selling his Monsters and Money product, because Mike's theory has always been that the ratings don't matter. What matters in Mike's world, is the revenue they bring in. Mike voiced his theory in a recent meeting. In the same meeting Sales Guy A explained that this is not a radio station and ratings generate ad revenue via national buyers in big time media. The lines have been drawn, the only question now is how much longer the CBS top dawgs that Mike had convinced this was a good idea stay on board the Titanic.

once again our "street smart guy" can't understand basic arithmetic.

Nort - "How rrr ad salez goin fer the monsters?"

Sales- " Horrible. the show has no ratings, therefore our ad rates have to be lowered and we aren't getting any ad revenue from national buyers"

Nort - " I tink da probem is youse guys cant sell. itz yer fault the show has no ratins"

Sales - " ad rates are based on ratings"

Nort - " den how comes i get custimers like city of rosemont and ntre dame hs, huh. youse don't know how to sell da sizzle"

As predicted by most on this board, nort will be out in the next 6 months if not sooner.

How can a major network like CBS2 in Chicago make the decision to put this show on the air? Who the hell would sign off on this? I wonder how long the contracts are for the hosts of M&MITM?

When CBS2 initially announced "Monsters & Money in the Morning" late last year, it sounded like something you'd find in The Onion. 670 The SCORE's Terry Boers & Dan Bernstein, along with Matt Abbatacola, couldn't contain their laughter when they first reported the story. It was one of the funniest segments they've ever done in the decade Terry & Dan have been on the SCORE airwaves...

It's starting to rank right up there with NBC5's decision to hire Jerry Springer as a "commentator" on the 10p news in 1997. Although it didn't last long, Ron Magers & Carol Marin, made no secret of their disgust for Springer at the time. Magers voiced his displeasure with the hiring when he was pinch hitting for Buzz Kilman as Jonathon Brandmeier's newsman on 97.9 The LOOP, and Marin voiced her disgust when she was part of a panel talking about Springer on WTTW 11's "Chicago Tonight". Both anchors left NBC5 after Springer was confronted by Mark Suppelsa, now principal newsman at WGN's CW9. The idiots who hired Jerry, Lyle Banks was forced out as V.P. & General Manager at WMAQ & Joel Cheatwood was sent packin' with the fancy title of Vice President of News, as a result of the Springer move.

That being said, if ratings for "Monsters & Money" don't improve quick, I wonder if the idiots who hired Mike North & Dan Jiggetts, current CBS2 V.P. & General Manager Bruno Cohen & News Director Jeff Kiernan, won't be far behind from the unemployment line.

Sounds accurate. Not that I am an insider of any kind. But my exposure to reading about sports radio through mainstream media reflects the above. Ratings aren't super important in sports talk radio because the audience is already in the sweet spot. (I.e. males 19-45). So yeah, Nort was probably in a different arena when talking radio revenues. No morning show has that skewed demographic so ratings drive revenue, not the format. Bottom line is that North's revenue expectations were inflated based on the format he was in for the last 15 years.

Seriously. That's would be just as dumb as wanting a local affiliate of a national sports radio company to put this guy and his old partner in their prime afternoon drive slot.

Weird, right?

I notice on the commercials,it's just Jiggets & Savage,no North or the other guy. That is not a good sign for Mikey. Right now in a way,North is like Pete Rose. North will never admit walking away from SCORE money to venture out on his own was a huge mistake, just like Rose never admitted to betting on baseball. Morale of the story: Never walk away from a six figure contract.

No, I think it was good he walked away from the Score's offer. The type of wheeling and dealing he wanted to do could only be done at a syndicated level. The Score could hardly do worse than put Mully and Hanley in, even though they had to spend months regaining audience share.

I think,
1. Believing that everyone likes his Pappy's Picks segments automatically translate into desire for a gambling advice site was a mistake. Pappy could gloss over mistakes in a radio segment, or only offer one or two picks.
2. The talkzone radio thing was interesting, but he had a sole sponsor (the restaurant) and no one calling in. I still think radio is imploding on itself, much like newspapers are (days of every station having their own on-air talent seems over)
3. The current and previous TV outings suffer from one major issue: Pappy is a radio guy.
You get to watch him sit at a set for hours on end. LOL.

My only inquiry is does anybody know anybody or even "know a guy" who watches this show for even 5 minutes per week? :?:

Not even Pam Zekman, let alone CBS2's Dave Savini, can save "Monsters & Money in the Morning" from going six feet under...
