I hear a 3rd sports station is close to becoming a reality.

So that will make 3 sports talk stations that don't want to put you on the air?

Bulls and White Sox as the programming on new station. You know what this means.

Be nice to actually have a sports station that talked intelligently about sport.

ESPN 1000 finishes going all national, all the time and Harry becomes Murph's partner in the 9-1 slot?

Well, I guess if you can't put together your own TV station ... the next best thing is RADIO, right?

If this all pans out, will be interesting to see who goes over there with the Sox (from The Score) and what retreads end up on the air.

Have to guess Sam Smith will host some sort of weekly Bulls show, right?

That's the hot rumor, but I'm not so sure it's going to happen. Although it's believed Jerry Reinsdorf is supposedly one of the station's owners along with Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan, the onetime owner of the Seattle Mariners, it's far from a done deal by any means. Besides, WSCR 670 The SCORE didn't spend a lot of money to acquire the White Sox radio rights right after they won it all in 2005. It's my understanding that WSCR bosses want to keep the Sox right where they are. If there is a 3rd sports talker, CBS Radio might beat Emmis to the punch. I hear there's nothing "Fresh" about 105.9 FM and their declining ratings...

Getting Sox broadcasts off the SCORE would be awesome

Thats fine. If the broadcasts are off the SCORE I never have to turn on my car and accidently have a Sox game come on the radio. The other day I contemplated leaving the car run with the garage door closed because Farmio had me praying for death. It's similar to my LoHo bridge embankment theory.

If the hosts were to take modest salaries to start it could work. A lot of desperate SCORE and ESPN cast offs and part timers would jump at it. But there is a reason that they are cast offs and part timers.

Reinsdorf would have to own a part of the station to get the SOX and Bulls on it cuz a start up station wouldn't have the money to out bid ESPN 1000 or The SCORE. Plus an FM station doesn't have the reach of the SCORE so they lose listener reach and thus smaller ad revenue.

I don't see it happening. Reinsdorf can make more money selling them to the SCORE than having them on a low reaching FM station that he owned. Cutting out the middle man wouldn't mean more money. Might not even mean equal money for him. Plus why does he want the head ache of owning a station? There's not huge money in that for a guy like Reinsdorf. For what? To break even or make a modest profit? He doesn't need to do that at his age.

Plus how would listeners give credibility to the hosts and their commentary when Reinsdorf is their boss?

I know he didn't own the station, but weren't the Bulls on 105.9 for a season or 2 before they went back to ESPN radio?

Sports talk radio is the hottest radio format in the country right now. There are cities much smaller than Chicago that have 3, 4, or even 5 all sports radio stations. St. Louis has 4 fer crying out loud! There are a lot of sports radio guys who are looking for full time work right now & would work for less. The 2 obvious names are North & Murph, but guys like Fred, Jesse, Hood, & a few others would jump at the chance. I hope the 3rd sports station becomes a reality. I would be fun to see things get shaken up a little bit.

I think it's $2.5 million a year for five years. When you consider that more and more teams buy the time up front, that's a big commitment.

I agree. With idiots like B&B, LoHo, Rosenblum, etc. on the air, let's get another station for sure. As for Spada getting banned >>   !!

Curious, The SCORE paying $2.5 million a year to carry the White Sox is a bargain. When you consider ESPN Radio 1000 paid $7.5 million a year to carry the Sox & Bulls as part of ABC Radio's (now known as Citadel Broadcasting) original $21 million price tag to turn WMVP into the flagship of ESPN Radio in 1998, The SCORE got a good deal by carrying the Sox broadcasts since 2006.
