If you haven't been watching CBS2's "Monsters & Money in the Morning" since its debut in February, you're not alone. Ratings have been dreadful from the getgo, and the end could be near if what Vocalo.org's Rob Feder wrote today means anything.

The blog actually has to do with CBS2 hiring Steve Bartlestein, who used to anchor news at WCBS & WABC in New York, but there are a couple of things in this story worth noting. According to a Web site called NewsBlues.com, Bartlestein has been hired by WBBM as "morning news anchor". If that is indeed the case, Feder mentions in his blog that Bartlestein's hiring could signal curtains for "Monsters", which features Mike North, Dan Jiggetts, ex-CNBC reporter Mike Hegedus & nationally syndicated personal finance expert Terry Savage.

Here's the link to Feder's blog and some more info on CBS2's latest hire:

Dammit, it can't get canceled. North has to get fired while Jiggetts gets to stay. If it gets canceled then he will blame it on something and come back with yet another pile of shit. If he gets the axe while Jiggetts and the show remain then he may finally get the message.

I know it's not great form to be excited about someone losing their job, but the thought of North getting canned again is just wonderful to me. He has constantly failed to keep himself in check, appreciate what he had, and refrain from always having to "push the envelope" with racist/dumb/ignorant rants and bits. It's embarassing that it's taken CBS this long to pull the plug, who were they waiting to find the show?

I used to enjoy North, but at some point the guy just got such a huge head he became a caricature of himself. I only wish that he had the smarts, or someone around him, to tell him that being humble and graciously accepting failure would score a LOT of points with people. Instead, as has been said a million times, we get the same brash and blustery excuse-making and chest thumping.

Wonder if he'll head back to Comcast to be Jen's assistant?

As a fan of the "old" Mike North,it is sad how his career has headed south.
He has entered Chet-ster territory now. Someone who used to be a big deal back in the early '90's. That must be getting harder to see in the rearview mirror. Next move: morning gig on some small FM station. He will make it sound like he is the next big thing AGAIN

phil_rosenthal I'm off, but sounds like "Monsters & Money" will be too. Permanently. Viewers will be informed individually.

Did it not say in that piece that the last show is August 27th?

UMN, after reading Feder's blog before posting this thread, I haven't read when CBS2 will mercifully end "Monsters & Money" for good. This is one of those between the lines stories...

Ch. 2 cancels ‘Monsters & Money’

Posted today at 1:10 p.m.

CBS affiliate WBBM-Ch. 2 is slaying its “Monster.”

The show “Monsters & Money in the Morning,” which debuted Feb. 1 in the 5 to 7 a.m. weekday slot, will be canceled because of poor viewership. The last show will air Aug. 27.
The roundtable show, ostensibly an early morning news program, was a mix of sports and money talk. With headlines and weather, it was hosted by the sports radio duo Mike North and Dan Jiggetts and played off their “Monsters” brand name. The show included former CNBC reporter Mike Hegedus and Chicago Sun-Times finance columnist Terry Savage.

Not only was the program an unusual topical format, station officials classified it as a non-news program to free it from news-department guidelines that might have limited revenue opportunities, such as endorsements and product placement.

However, the experiment failed. The show typically attracted less than a 2 percent share of those Chicago homes watching TV.

WBBM boss Bruno Cohen said recently he would give high marks to the producers and on-air team for execution, but that he needed to see “a higher rating to be optimistic about its future.”

WBBM will debut a new morning news show, starting Aug. 30. It will be anchored by Steve Bartelstein, a WBBM spokeswoman said. Bartelstein was most recently a reporter and anchor in New York.

When it was first revealed that CBS2 had announced "Monsters & Money in the Morning" in the first place, I remember Boers, Bernstein, Drinky & Goff the day it was announced couldn't contain their laughter...They thought it was something straight out of the Onion.

Oh how North has fallen. There are few on this board that even care this is canceled. Even for gloating. Well, we haven't heard from RodeoVann yet. I wish I had a recording of the segment Shark is referencing above. It was classic.

Kind of ironic that drinky would mock North given that the former will apparently be employed as Bernstein's caddy until he's using a walker to get around the studio. drinky will never achieve a quarter of what the "laughable" North did during his broadcasting career.

Hey Tall Midget, you remember that time you pissed Drinky off enough that he mentioned both you and Beardown on air? That was awesome....

Why is it sad? The arrogant SOB deserves every bit of it. I also hope the complete morons that hired him for this show at CBS are out on the street corners with money cups, too. They don't deserve jobs at a major-market TV station.

As for me, I'd be dancing in the streets if I thought it was finally the end of this idiot's Chicago media career, but history indicates some hack station manager out there, who is still living in the 90's and thinks North is the "Voice of the Fan" and "Mr. Quintessential Chicago Guy" will hire him AGAIN for yet ANOTHER train wreck.

Go retire to your lakefront home in Park Ridge, Mikey. Oh, wait . . . you can't afford that any more, can you? Maybe you'll have to find a crook out there who steals old ladies' retirement funds to finance your next venture. Hmm, no, that's been tried already and failed. Well, then, just pursue your lifelong dream to run a gambling website . . . what's that? . . . tried and failed, also? How about writing a book or recording a CD? Tried that, too? OK, I'm seeing a pattern here.

I had similar sentiments when he did the same to Murph.

You know your show sucks when paid infomercials on MY50 & "You and Me This Morning" on WCIU 26 The U beat "Monsters & Money" in the ratings from the getgo.

As for CBS2's current management team of V.P. & General Manager Bruno Cohen & News Director Jeff Kiernan, I don't know who signed off on giving Mike North another forum, but those two clowns have to go as well. Nobody watches CBS2 for news anymore. These are the same two clowns that are giving Bill Kurtis & Walter Jacobson, who are not getting any younger, the 6p newscast starting in September. I'm old enough to remember when Bill & Walter guided WBBM to the top of the local news heap, but guess what? This is 2010, not 1975. If I wanted Bill & Walter doing the news on Channel 2 like the good old days, give me John Coughlin telling us about Bullhead City, AZ having the hottest temperature in the country. Give me Johnny Morris and those "Blueplate Specials" come Bears' season...

Meanwhile, if you checked out the link to Rob Feder's blog, the book on Steve Bartlestein is that he's a bit of a loose cannon and a fruit loop. He's the second ex-WCBS news anchor that is coming to WBBM this fall. CBS2 Chicago viewers will also be introduced to Kate Sullivan, a former morning news babe whose photos you can find on another Web site where you can find my contributions. Kate will be joining Rob Johnson at 5 & 10p starting in September as well. As for these photos of Ms. Sullivan, check 'em out here...

Agreed. It seems like right when Drinky and Goff hit the scene at WSCR the first words they said on the air were "Fuck Mike North" and "Fuck Mike Murphy". I don't think that's the way you should be when the station gives you a shot. That always rubbed me the wrong way. Who the hell are they anyway? Doesn't matter if Murph and North are ass wipes. I don't think that's what you do when you're lucky enough to get a shot. Why not just worry about yourself and try to say something interesting with your show. They're always good with the insults and telling you who sucks instead of trying to make their shows not suck.
