http://fsr-pr.clearchannel.com/main.html Ok. So who's getting fired there? I actually think this is a weekend show for Pappy. I didn't know Rome and Patrick were a part of FOX radio. They're not gonna fire them. They have pretty good followings I would assume. They just hired Steven A Smith recently. I guess they could fire that afternoon show (Never heard of those guys) but it says they just hired Pat O'Brien on the FOX radio's website to join two other guys. Big Fan speculated that Pappy would have a deal where he gets more for selling sponsors. How would that work? This is a national show. You need national ads. You can't get Notre Dame high school for this show. The few local connections he has here are meaningless for this type of show. I'm guessing that the 300 markets are backwater towns with poor stations just looking for cheap content so FOX takes whatever they can offer. Even if he's in big cities I'm sure FOX doesn't do well cuz they're competing against local shows and the almighty ESPN radio. It's curious that Pappy signed so quick. This had to be an offer he had on the table for a while. They didn't put this together in 2 days. If it was that great he would have left CBS 2 and wouldn't have been upset about them dropping him. The fact that he was upset over CBS 2 letting him go means he's not getting much at FOX radio. Once again, it think this is a weekend show for Pappy. |

At best, he'd fit in with the show "Loose Cannons". No way that they will give him his own weekday show. |

It was a garbage ill conceived show with a cast of creepy characters. North has been through this enough to know when the writing is on the wall. |

Notice how quickly this release came out, but the show is not set and the deal won't be announced for 2-3 weeks. Let me guess that the PR release came from Papiland, via the North PR machine, because once he (or Bebe) learned how to write a PR release those things never stopped. I am goign to say all they agreed upon is a per show fee and they haven't even agreed upon how many shows |

This is no joke. In the Fox Sports Radio Press release it states that Mike North is currently a columnist for the Chicago Sun Times. How ridiculous. If I were the editor at the Sun Times I would immediately demand a correction to that press release. If I pay for an ad in the classified section of the Tribune am I a columnist then? |

Something is very fishy about this FOX sports radio deal. As BigFan has said, how do you hire someone and then say "we'll tell you what he's doing in 3 weeks". We need to think like Mike North here. What's he up to? I don't think he's been hired. I think this is a ploy by his camp (his camp being Pappy, Bebe, Spaceball and Frizy) to force them to hire him by making an announcement that he's been hired when he hasn't acutally been hired. I know it sounds stupid but it's North and he thinks it will work. I expect FOX sports to release a statement saying "Our three weeks of considering Mike North have been a great 3 weeks but we are going our seperate ways." I expect North to release a statement on his website: "Dem bastards screwed me. I'ze will get even. Somethin' big is in da works. Stay tuned." I then expect Rodeovan to release a report here: "North went into the FOX offices and destroyed pictures of Joe Buck and Terry Bradshaw after hearing the news." The saga never ends... |

With North, anything is possible. I agree with you that something smells about this deal. My guess, he's a weekend fill in. Weekdays, fill in. Maybe late nights, but he won't be "starring" in his own drive time show. |

Quote: Something is very fishy about this FOX sports radio deal. As BigFan has said, how do you hire someone and then say "we'll tell you what he's doing in 3 weeks". I thought the same thing, since the press release did not appear on Fox Radio's website. However, I did some digging. It is actually Clear Channel that runs "Fox Sports Radio." They basically lease the Fox brand and do all of the programming under their wholly-owned subsidiary Premiere Radio Networks. The press release is on the Premiere site. If the wikipedia entry for Fox Sports Radio is accurate, it seems like they have shifted a bunch of programs recently. They also produce simultaneous shows, so an affiliate can choose between one show and another. Additionally, many of their affiliates only play Fox Sports Radio part of the time, with most of their programming cobbled together from other syndacated shows. For instance, one of their affiliates--the powerhouse WEOL of Elyria, Ohio--mostly plays crap like Dr. Laura and Sean Hannity during the day, with an hour or two of Fox Sports at night. Most of the affiliates are in podunk places that feature the same model--sports programming playing second fiddle to the typical squadron of national right-wing talkers. They also tend to be affiliates for MLB,NFL, College, etc...teams, so live games will cut into the Fox Sports time. It will be interesting to see what his role will actually be. Aside from the prime movers like Dan Patrick and Jim Rome, whenever I hear these sydacated sports shows they are talking about irrelevant things like southern college football teams and Nascar. I really don't see how North's sports material will go over in most of these podunk markets. His bigoted ramblings would probably resonate, so I am predicting he'll focus on that element of his game. Of course, no one will object since his audience will be miniscule and favorably disposed to his rantings. |
