Decided to give it it's own thread and since I don't consider this actual WAGERING advice, best to put it here.

Taking the Giants last night was a win for Pappy, which is fortunate because the Monday night game is what they call a "bail-out" game when the Vegas oddsmakers start to play with you a little bit, try to screw with you. North isn't as strong on Monday nights, he's only 65% on Monday night plays, unlike the 73-74% his on his Saturday games or the 100% on Sundays. No brag, just fact.

Per Mike North Website: +7270
Phantom Bean Count currently at +1,400.

North has an interesting definition of facts. Just taking a look at the last month, he's

3-5-1 on Saturday
6-8 on Sunday
2-2 on Monday

But, somewhat inexplicably, he is 6-0 on his "Bulgarian 5-Star NFL Pick of the Week" and, believe me, he let's everybody who comes on his show know about it. He interviewed some guy from Buffalo this week, I have no doubt, just so he could talk about how he picked Buffalo. He did the same thing last week with a guy from Philly.

When do his ratings come out? You have to be the only one still listening to this pile of shit be it though only for purely statistical research.

I get the podcast and listen to it at double speed so, if you skip the interviews and just listen to his thoughts and phone calls, you can hear the entire show in, literally, about 15-20 minutes. Plus, listening to North speak at double speed is quite entertaining.

He snuck a Boise pick in last night.

Boise State -37 for 100 beans. L

I'm a bit confused here - is the top # what he is publishing as his record...and the bottom # is the REAL record (that you've been tracking)?

Is he really lying by nearly 6000 "beans"??? Wow.

I am stunned at how the pendulum has swung in terms of betting/gambling on sports, overall. Seems like it went the way of the dodo with Jimmy The Greek - but now it's back, full speed. Pretty telling that no one (apparently) cares how much North lies about his skillz. Don't fade me, bro.

Post subject:  Re: Mike North's Jelly Beans for the World

Per his website, he is listed at +7170 (assuming he deducts 100 for his loss last night which is no guarantee).

The Phantom Count are the "magic bean" count of beans that have mysteriously been added in his tabulations that seem to have come from nowhere.

So, in just the time that I have been tracking this, his actual total should be +5770.

From now on I will post thusly -

Per Mike North Website: +7170
Actual Count: +5770
Phantom Bean Count: +1400

Not to mention that he bet 3,000 beans on one game, which was basically everything he had at that point, on the Raiders and won. The theory was that, if he had lost, it would have been classified as a typo for 300 given that he has never bet more than 500 on any particular game before or since. But, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one.

Thanks, Doc, for the explanation - I'm just an idiot.

Boy I'd love it if North called in to B&B or another Score show one day.....that'd just be great. Maybe HE could be THEIR Fritzy?

Miami Heat -6 1/2
Mississippi +7
Buffalo Bills +7 1/2

The spreads all look good, except the Heat are actually -3 1/2 but that one shoudn't count anyway. He also has all the right teams playing the correct opponents this week. Let's see what happens.

Vinny was never a coach of any kind, or at any level, before his gig with Da Boo. One would think that he would have learned his lesson by now. Taking the contrarian point of view just for argument's sake, is not a good idea, and often makes him look foolish.

So far this week on College Football -

0-4 for -600 beans

Bookie Priest was 0-1 on his college pick.

So going into his NFL game today of Raiders (-3) for 100 beans -

Per Mike North Website: +6670
Actual Count: +5270
Phantom Bean Count: +1400

Post subject:  Re: Mike North's Jelly Beans for the World

as a frame of reference, where did the +5270 jellybean counter start off at? did he start off with a bankroll of ~5000 jellybeans for this gambling endeavor?

i went back and listened to teh first hour of last saturday's show where he was boasting that he's the top handicapper in the nation bar none and it's not bragging: it's a fact and etc etc... seriously, is this guy doing a comedy routine or what? or is he pulling some shit where if he speaks confidently and doctors the jellybean counter and calls out that he's perfect on his "top picks" and keeps reiterating this with all kinds of confidence that his newfound/diehard followers will just eventually buy into it?

My, my, my...the hits just keep on coming. Mike's grasp on reality is very loose. I don't know how he or BeBe, would think that the Bookie Priest bit is even remotely funny.

Thank you Doc for taking one for the team and keeping us updated on the downward spiral of Pappy. I kept wondering what alarm was going off in my house while watching the Youtube links...bad, bad, bad.

That's impressive. He should start a website where you can subscribe and get his picks every week; he'd probably make a lot of money with it . . . what's that? . . . oh, never mind.

Best that I can remember he started at +1,000 a few months back. I didn't feel like verifying it but it seems he won a series of baseball bets that put him around +3,000 over the summer.

It was his discovery of 1,000 magic beans at that point that first got me interested in tracking him and then put him around +4,000. He then hit his 3,000 bean Raider bet and has been losing ground ever since.

He once again makes a pick without specifying any actual spread. But, apparently, take any points you can get with Houston tonight. But, remember, the Monday night game is what they handicappers call a "bail-out" game where they play games with the lines and North only hits at about 65% on these. So, keep that in mind.

Phantom Bean Count remains at +1,400.

Edit - Spread on Houston looks like +5 (every line from donspiracy's link is +5) so we'll go with that. I really hope they lose by 6 and let's see what happens.

Post subject:  Re: Mike North's Jelly Beans for the World

That was an L for last night's game too.

It was a tough week for Pappy, the Best Handicapper in the Country, bar every other handicapper in the country.

+6670

Side note - Pappy had 750 Trick or Treaters to Pappyland. That's quite a few. I'm not sure how many I had as I did not count them.

Also, if you wish "Good Luck to everyone running for office in the State of Illinois", isn't it kind of meaningless?
