I sure as hell hope WGN TV has made arrangements to pay for and televise the funeral of Ronnie Woo Woo.....THAT truly could not be missed...we'd have to jam into a bar for it!!!! :drunken: :drunken:

bob, your take on how WGN has cultivated many an idiot cubs fan to believe that the cubs' organization is an extension of their family was spot on. i've been holding back my true feelings to avoid some of the wrath of people who wear "bear and bat" adjustable-size hats, but after ~8-9 days of ron santo memorial bullshit i have to say: WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK IS THIS SHIT?!@

seriously it's like a pope or a sitting president died. i understand showing the service and having the pat hughes eulogy (he certainly seems like a classy guy... i can't wait to see/hear if they pair him with an actual broadcaster... my dream tier would be doug glanville, however i think he sold his soul to ESPN at the crossroads) --- but like, having skycopter 9 follow a fucking hearse with a translucent roof and the whole SANTO 10 jersey cover on the casket was just weird. driving a funeral procession around town and stopping in front of the WGN studios is just bizarre and weird and creepy and as the ranger said, the cubs fans were quick to rip on cardinals fans for darryl kile and yet once the opportunity arose they made darryl kile look like a walk in the park.

also, i think tom ricketts is creepy and ultimately will end up being some sort of a horrible owner. ask bigfan about the concourse level season tickets they tried giving him... once i saw that clown in teh giant harry caray glasses the evil side of me cracked a wry grin because i knew that the cubs are destined to suck for even longer than the ~4+ year window of suck they've not just wedged open, but smashed open with a baseball bat.

how long until they shuffle the statues around one more time to put a ron santo statue up at sheffield and addison? make sure that he's got an appendage sticking out for the true blue cub fans to hang dismembered goat carcass parts from in order to prevent any future playoff futility.

In my own twisted Bernstein like cynical way, I DAMN WELL GUARANTEE THE TV RATINGS LOCALLY for Ronnie Woo Woo's funeral would top Santo's. 8)

so when milton bradley dies, will cubs fans leave morning-constitution-sized piles of excrement on the bricks with a little note on it that says "#21, you were a piece of shit, but you were always OUR piece of shit! we will miss you"

...come to think of it, they could do the same thing for sammy sosa when he dies! hell, they could even use the same note!! gotta think green, you know?

That's kind of sensitive for a guy who claimed not to be a Cardinals fan anymore.

Hey Bob, how old are you, about 12 would be my guess. Grow up and get a life.

This never occurred to me before seeing this thread, but Bud Dude and Aggravated Sox Fan Bob are board doppelgangers.

Question: were you finding Harry Caray's and Brickhouse's funerals to be just as creepy? Is it possible that Santo was in the team photo, in terms of popular announcers?

I like Bob.

Someone has to show the majority of blind ass Cub fans reality.

Or we'll go another 100+ years w/o a title.

Why weren't Norm Van Lier and Johnny Kerr granted WGN-TV "State Funerals" with a pause at Tribune Tower and a procession around the United Center with pauses at some of their favorite watering holes?
This 'special honor' must be reserved for CUBBIE announcers!!!!!
This televised Santo Funeral was another example of WGNs slimy Cubbie marketing to mentally infirm dupes.

When you become as old and cynical as I am, you start to realize that the Tribune Company and their WGN TV and Radio have been separating Cub Fans from their money for generations with this assinine "One Big Happy Family" con. Of course Cub Fans are still waiting to win a damned PENNANT.
At least when I was a kid I would enjoy the Hamm's Beer Commercials featuring the Hamm's Bear!!!! :drunken:

NOWHERE have I ridiculed any individual whose life Santo touched and went and paid their respects.
I have no use for the Tribune and WGN TV and Radio using a funeral for marketing their product.
