I don't mean this as a knock on the guy, but why in the hell did Chicago Trib Live have bartender "Frankie O" from Harry Carry's on the panel last night?

He is actually a lot more sensible than Kap, Spiegs, David Haugh, and the usual cast of neer-do-wells, but I find it a bit pathetic that they have to bring in a bartender as a supposed "expert."

I will say that Frankie is much better in the studio than when they do that idiotic "point-counterpoint" thing with Kap. Anytime you are stealing ideas from Mike North you're in pretty sad sack territory.

Because Harry Carry's is probably a sponsor of CTL and this is like a commercial for them in exchange for Harry Carry's giving them gift certifercits. I've seen them go live to him behind the bar where he says nothing of significance. Money is tough to come by in TV and radio. This is the way they do things now. Especially for a low budget nothing show like this. They disguise commercials as show content. Spiegel once said they pay the guests on this shows with Gift Certificits to restaurants.

I've read comments on this board on how badly this show is run. Nobody really gives a shit over there. Hosts show up a minute before they go on the air. Their panel is often made up of unknown people. For Christ sake, I've seen Rock Mamola and Matt Webber (former North producer who went to webio and has never been heard from since) on this show. Many of their guests dress like slobs. It's awful.

The guy is on every single night from the bar. This is the CTL trying to get the regualr guys point of view after a hard days work, walks into the bar, orders a shot and a bar and starts talking with the bartender who has nothing to do but clean glasses.

Frank seems like a good dude, but CTL can use a better shakeup!

Ever seen the new guy? Cooper who monitors the LIVE CTL Chat room and summarizes for Kap whats goign on, on the web? Thats like calling me and asking about a Bears chat.

Wait? WOuld I then be a member of the media???? and I can tweet asshole remarks as news?

Yea--that whole segment is about as bush league as you can get.

My favorite part of it is the "shaky" camera technique they use--like they trying some homage to 60s-style cinema verite. It is really unclear why they deploy it.

Normally you would use that technique to convey action or movement. It is like they trying to say that their shitty website / "new media" is the dynamic, "hip place to be." Some producer at CSN must have stumbled on a cache of old "Real World" VHS tapes from the 90s and is looking to connect with the kids.

The whole thing winds up just being stupid.
