J. Hood talking about how he lives in "South Shore" would be like a white guy claiming he grew up on the "streets of Mt. Greenwood". This guy went to a private grammar school and highschool. On top of the that, South shore is anything close to englewood or cabrini green. His fake ghetto routine is a disgrace. I compare J.Hood to the kid who grew up in plainfield or Downers Grove and tells all his buddies away at school he grew up in the streets of Chicago.

Even if he did grow up in a bad neighborhood I don't need to have it mentioned 10 times a show. Nobody cares. I guess he thinks its a badge of honor or something.

I don't think he get's more black calls because he mentions he's from the south shore. There are black people North of Madison too.

Ok, if you say so. It didn't help get the Telender show. While Telender sucked he deserved some of the blame too. I think the bottom line is the content of you're show. Not mentioning where you grew up. Black and white people alike will judge you on the content in my opinion.

"They like the semi-street routine Bear. Mentioning where he grew up at, just let's people from Chicago know that he grew up in the "hood". It gives his street talk a little more credibility."

South Shore is not the "hood". Its not anymore "hood" than Westlawn or Ashburn

I was just using Englewood as an example, growing up and teaching in Chicago they are lots of shitty areas, South Shore isnt one of them.

I'm a white guy, and I grew up in Mt. Prospect!!!!!

Yes, nwo, Hoody is in fact black, and I'll back up Nas that when you're just sittin with the guy at a remote, his "vocal stylings" are quite different.

I've constantly mentioned how I hate Pappy's "I grew up on the streets and didn't graduate" routine. C'mon Nas I'm sure you've read that. Here is something else. I just don't think Hood is that smart and has no original thoughts. In transition with Silv and Carm the other day he and JD were gonna have Hockey trivia. Hood said "we will invite all of our North American friends listening on line". He then mentioned a couple of Canadian cities. Uhh Hood, Chicago and the U.S are in North America. Jurko called him on it by saying so is Mexico. He did an awkward back track. It's examples like this that make me turn the dial on him more then mentioning where he grew up.

Hood does seem to mention it quite a bitwhen he does shows. However, it doesn't really bother me. He makes me laugh a lot so Ibrush it off. I do get annoyed when Pappy does it. I guess I've been biased towards Hood on this giving him the pass. i don't know. I do agree with nas that a lot of time Hood criticims seem to be petty.

"I don't hear you guy bitch when North, Bernstein and the rest of the guys tell you where they grew up or where they live. Is it because you can't relate to what he is talking about?"

Do you ever visit the Mike North message board? People fire on him all the time and mock how he talks and where he grew up.

I love that site. I wonder if it was created by some white folks or black folks. Not that it matters, either way it's a great read but I wonder the background of how it was started. Reminds me of a lot of the Onion writing.

I think he has very little insight other then the obvious on Chicago sports or anything else. That is me. You think otherwise. I'll never convince you and you'll never convince me.

Wow nas. He came up with the invention of talking about games when they are over. That is innovative. I've never heard that done before. Jesus Christ Nas, it was done long before he was there. Every host on the Score talked about "games" when they were done. You have to be kidding me.

I'm not saying he didn't do it. Just because he came up with a title for it doesn't make him innovative. People before him just said "lets talk about the game". Saying "Southside post game" with some sounder doesn't make it innovative. My God it doesn't take much to impress you guys. Oh wow, he read the box score. Big deal. He's at a sports station and he took advantage of listeners tunning in after the game. Everybody does that. Everybody did it before him. Saying "North Side post" game doesn't make it different or special.

Southside postgame show, Northside postgame and the Bulls postgame show. Does any of them ring a bell to you? The Score didn't do them! Get your facts together!

The truth is the best defense. That's the Hood I'm talking about. The one who was caller friendly and funny. Manager Jerry was gold. Dammit, he should have Rongi's gig! I'm most pissed 'cause he did it to himself.

ESPN is off the air when games are over. The Score has the Sox and now goes national. I remember Grobber and even Tommy Williams taking phone calls. I like MJH, I've said that before. I think Murph is OK. Yes I'm trying to discredit Hood because I don't think he's good. I don't like Pappy either and have had critisisms of others. I've listed my complaints of Hood before. But I'll do it again if you want. We have new readers now

-States the obvious (the cubs need to score runs)

-Fails at attempts to be funny. He forces it too much and laughs at his own jokes with a phony laugh.

-Seems to dish it but can't take it.

-Constant reminders of his geographical location. You think it's petty but I find it grating.

-Uses alot of words to say nothing. Killing time untill the commercial.

-Never has an original thought. He seems to say things that have been said elsewhere.

Like I said you can like him but these are the reasons I don't. Sorry.

Does anybody on the radio come from anywhere but the "slums" or "a bad neighberhood". I'm not saying that their all lying, but most of them are. I've never heard a local or national guy just say, "yeah I grew up middle class, or I had a pretty easy childhood". No everyone had it rough, Dad worked 10 jobs, Mom was cleaning and cooking all day, i was in the military, I worked construction, my sister was gangraped on a daily basis. Do people really by that bullshit and if they do, who cares? I could care less if your from the Gold Coast or if your from the Dearborn Homes, just entertain me.

Maybe you're limiting this to just sportstalk hosts, but off the top of my head I can think of Steve Dahl, Garry Meier, Howard Stern, Jonathan Brandmeier, Kevin Matthews, and the Tiny One himself. They were all products of a middle or upper class upbringing.

I grew up in Sauganash. I considered Italians to be people of color.

I'm a long time Hood fan by the way.

Everyone's favorite rich white boy Danny Bernstein Jr has also made it apparent that he comes from a decently well-off background.
