Joe Ostrowski & John "Rock" Mamola are two of the many producers at 670 The SCORE who also double as part-time hosts on the CBS Radio-owned sports talker and White Sox flagship. They've been hosting a local Saturday night show together for about the last year or so, but might not be doing so much longer.

Starting tomorrow night, the two will be splitting up and hosting solo shows on the SCORE for the immediate future. "The Rock Report", Mamola's blog on ChicagoNow.com, will also be the name of John's new solo show Friday nights 10p-Midnight on The SCORE. Ostrowski, who also executive produces of both Laurence Holmes' nighttime show and of the Chicago White Sox Radio Network as well as a nighttime "Scoreboard Update" anchor, will host solo Saturday nights, starting after Westwood One's national broadcast of the Packers/Falcons' NFC Divisional Playoff game around 10p or so.

I'm sure it's more cost-effective, but solo shows almost always stink. Unless it's Dan Bernstein.

Well, I know that Rock is on the board (radio lingo) on WBBM Newsradio 780 every Bears' gameday and that show he's done with Joe on 670 The SCORE had gone later than when it was scheduled to end sometimes...

Long overdue for the plug to be pulled on these dopes. The only live mic Rock should be in front of is one where he proclaims 'number 18 your table is ready.'

I really hope they don't split them up. I get to hear their last hour on my drive home from work....it's about the only thing listenable on the weekend, except for Doug and OB of course. They have fun too, which is what most late nighters want to hear.

I would much rather hear Rock & Joe together rather than each solo. I likes these two together. Solo shows are bad.

Although it is a temporary split, Joe and I are willing to try out some new things. Not only to try some new things on the air, but work on becoming better hosts. I'm going into this as an opportunity to learn how to properly drive a show which is something I normally didn't do with Joe as the lead.

It's something fresh for both of us and maybe in the end it was needed for both of our careers to move forward. By no means is there any ill-will (which I've seen rumored on Twitter) between Joe and I....but this is something we are both looking forward to.

Let's see how it works out.

I'm super stoked about tonight.....worked on some small production elements and want to try some new things in the next coming weeks.

I invite you to join the conversation every Friday night at 10pm much like you participate in The Rock Report online.

Let's have some fun with it.

good luck to you,it would be refreshing to have a solo host not be a clone of the mac and b&b shows, which almost all of the scores solo hosts are, be professional and talk sports no one cares what you did last weekend or what female star you think is smokong hot, this is your chance to change things up

There was a rumor of "ill-will" between you and Joe on twitter. Those people are idiots. Even if there were hate between you and Joe, you guys are in no potition to go to Mitch and say that cuz you're both grateful to have that show. You're not gonna complain. Mitch would be like "Ok, fine. You guys are out and Herb Laurence and Baldy McGrindy are up for late night Saturdays." Mitch doesn't want to hear complaints from producers getting air time.

Do Drinky and Goff give you guys advise and help you out? Just curious cuz, let's be honest, you're competing with them for the next prime time opening at the Score. My advise to you is not to bitch about air time while you're on the air and don't bitch about the writers and other people that Mitch let's guest host. Don't be like other back ups and paint those people as evil and hate on them. Don't cry about it or make snide remarks. That's very pety, childish and only reflects poorly on you. Just try to be better at radio. That's you're best bet to hit the big time.

I was sick and in bed so I caught the Rock Report on Friday. That was real bad radio. I'd rather listen to Score Values. Better than North though. Stick with Joe, Rock - you are good together. It works well with Joe playing the male role and you the female role. Or perhaps find another dominant to be your radio husband.

I appreciate you listening, but it is going to take some time for me to get comfy in the lead role. Rome wasn't built in a day and becoming the best I can be will take time as well.

There's an obvious niche in Chicago sports radio that is wide open. And that would be a host (other than Les) that actually knows something about sports and the history of the games we're supposedly all interested in. And for the life of me I can't understand why so many up and comers prefer to fashion themselves after ignoramuses like Boers or bernstein rather than trying to become an expert on the subjects who can talk intelligently about them. Opinions are great, but one should have a basis to form an opinion rather than just some crap like "He's grindy and white. I hate him." My advice to you would be to study the subjects and become the guy that knows more than the rest of the dopes. It shouldn't be that difficult.

Joe Orr and Bob (aggravated) would be a good show

C'mon JORR. You're the same guy who argued that Walter Davis may have been a better player than Scottie Pippen because, "Who's to say he wasn't?"

Come on, man. I don't think I ever said Walter Davis was better than Scottie, though he probably was a better scorer. On paper he was definitely a better scorer, but he wasn't playing with Jordan either. I'm sure Scottie may have scored more on a different team. But I also doubt he would be viewed as quite as great as he is in that case. A guy's situation matters. Ultimately, it was what it was. Pippen played on all those championship teams. Some guys I consider better didn't. I'm not trying to take that away from Scottie.

Anyway, my sports opinions aren't based on feelings like, "Jim Tressel looks like a douche in that sweater so he's a shit coach" or "Tim Tebow loves God so he sucks at quarterback". That's just shit-talking.

I got you JORR. I do agree that a guy's situation matters. Pip did benefit from playing with Michael but it could be argued (and I believe it to be true) that Scottie actually became a better player when Jordan retired in '93.

Damn right..I turned Les on at 4am the other day and he was giving a dissertation on all of the Sox v. Cubs pitcher/batter matchups in the history of the All-Star game.... "Then remember in the '75 All Star Game when Jim Kaat of the Sox faced Bill Madlock of the Cubs? Madlock was behind in the count, 1-2, when he hit a slider low and away to Rod Carew at 2b for a routine grounder...."

Classic Les.

And Ill bet Madlock was ahead in the count, it was a fastball and he popped it up.

Madlock faced Catfish Hunter and Goose Gossage (of the Sox) in the 1975 All-Star game. He flewout to CF against Hunter and singled to LF for 2 RBIs against Gossage.

I remember when Whitey Ford struck out Barry Bonds in the 77 World series. Gagne got the save.
