am listening to the score and the topic of worst contract ever came up...hands down soriano is my choice as worst deal all time. some callers seem to think otherwise i have heard ... mike hampton barry zito blah blah and some retard called in to defend jim hendry saying... hendry was told to to misspend money by ownership, and compared the soriano deal to that of jake peavy. peavy was an awful signing..but nowhere close to soriano's 136 million no trade..and soriano is probaly the worst left fielder in mlb. peavy will get less than half that from the sox. not sure why this host (esposito ?) is not smart enough to know this. |

The Yankees paid Carl Pavano $39.95MM from 2005-08 and got 26 total appearances and 9 wins over 4 seasons from the right-hander. |

A.J. Burnett was paid a two season total of thirty-three million dollars ($33,000,000.00) for his hideous performances in 2009 and 2010. Combining those seasons, he has won twenty-three (23) games and has lost twenty-four (24) games. I don't know if this is the worst contract ever, but he is the player in baseball that I despise the most. |

I hate A.J. Burnett far more. He currently torments me. Much like Dietrich Knickerbocker, Carl Pavano is the passed. |

LOL @ Beardown. Mo Vaughn. 2002 - 2004, 46.5 million. Remember this is early 2000 money too, so for 2003 he was the highest paid player, and 2004 the second highest in the league. 2002 you get a so-so season of .259/349/.456 and 26 HRs. 2003 was .190/.323/.329 with 3 home runs. He didn't even play in 2004 -- the year he was the second highest paid player in the league. Granted, this was hastened by an injury, but still bad money. |

u sound like a hendry apologist... u do not need a crystal ball to know players get older and less productive..(latin players are almost always older than they actually are..again this is not news... as far as being a great move? nah and i am not alone in this, many besides me knew this was an awful contract at the time..(just like milton bradley) was soriano an upgrade over matt murton? of course he was, but nowhere close to an 8 year deal.. no team was willing to give soriano half that money.. soriano has always sucked in the field, strikes out too much, and all the contracts that were mentioned were less money than soriano's deal.. and soriano has peaked years ago..only gets worse from here...4 years of garbage in left field to come, if soriano was making 2 million a year ..he would not even start . that is how awful he is in the field. like i said this is not even close to another baseball contract as far as bang for your buck. |

like i said soriano numbers will not get better they are only going downhill for 4 more years. hendry should not have been the man to hire lou.. i wanted girardi and most intelligent fans did also... |

no i did not... was he there for more than 1 season? ... i saw what lou did to our pitchers when the central was on lockdown... lou whipped his guys down the stretch.. (smart man rests his men) in doing so, you let the mets in and keep the dodgers out..nobody wanted to play dodgers after they got manny they were on fire... when zambrano was well rested he was fantastic..u saw the no no in milwaukee on long rest.. so lou's dumb ass whips guys down stretch and beat up on mets n let dodgers in to sweep cubs . |

There have been far worse contracts than Soriano's. He's been a good player for the Cubs. I don't think hindsight is necessary to know that shit was going to be dicey on the back end of the deal. The Cubs needed to make a splash at the time they signed him and the may have overpaid. If they hadn't, someone else would have. |

no team was willing to give soriano anywhere near that deal. bad gm's make bad decisions .. just like jerry angelo drafts gerret wolfe in 3rd round...wolfe probally goes undrafted if angelo does not reach like that. that is the understatement of the year "the cubs may have over paid" not sure how u can even say soriano has been good for the cubs? have u seen him play ? here is the next 4 seasons for soriano..now that retarded ass lou was removed soriano will bat 6th or 7th so at bats are going down... 4 seasons combined = 300 obp 250 ba 61 hr 95 rbi and the worst outfielder in the majors. |

Soriano has had one lousy season for the Cubs, in 2009 when he had nagging injuries and probably shouldn't have been playing at all. And I'm not sure another team wasn't going to offer him anything close to that deal. Maybe they didn't need to go to seven years, but they wanted to make sure they got him. They were trying to win right away and they figured they'd deal with the shitty back end of the contract when the time came. Maybe they can get a couple more good years out of him. Believe me, the Cubs have much bigger problems than Soriano's contract. |

remember this guy? Jon Francis Koncak (born May 17, 1963 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa) is a former American professional basketball player. A 7'0" center from Southern Methodist University, Koncak was selected with the 5th pick in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Koncak spent ten seasons with the Hawks (1985–1995), mainly in a reserve role, then concluded his career with the Orlando Magic. He retired in 1996 with career totals of 3,520 points and 3,856 rebounds. Though a reliable defender for much of his career, Koncak is perhaps best remembered for the six-year, US$ 13 million contract he received from the Hawks in 1989 – an unprecedented total for a reserve. The deal was roundly criticized since it paid Koncak more than Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. His large contract prevented the Hawks from taking part in any other major free agent signings for several years. As a result, he earned the derisive nickname "Jon Contract." On February 23, 2008 SMU retired Koncak's jersey. Koncak is an Eagle Scout. |

Denny Neagle has to be in the team photo. In 2000 he signed a huge (at that time) 5yr/$51M contract with the Rockies. He went 19-23 with a 5.58 ERA in a little over 2 years and was injured and out of baseball. |

Post subject: | Re: worst contract ever? |
Not the worst contract ever but it certainly is an albatross now. They should be able to trade him to an AL team in the next couple years to become a DH if they assume 80% of the remaining money. What made this a bad deal is when he hurt his legs and lost his ability to steal bases. He still can hit but in typical Cubs fashion, he is more part of the problem and not part of the solution given his budget number. Damn shame for sure. |

Post subject: | Re: worst contract ever? |
all terrible contracts i agree... none of them has handcuffed a team like soriano's deal has.. there is no way an american league team would take soriano as a dh , his bat is too big and heavy for is old arms , his power is gone , he has almost zero value..like i said maybe u will realize just how bad it is aftet this deal is done in FOUR MORE YEARS. |
