i kid you not - !

A new way to communicate with our audience will launch tomorrow on the air. Text Messaging powered by Verizon Wireless will be available to our audience beginning tomorrow. Show producers have been briefed, and I encourage everyone to give this a try, its just another way for our audience to reach out to the station. Our Text Messaging code is, 67011.
Thanks!

Who's going to take the time to text a well-thought paragraph ? Honestly, one of the dumbest things I've heard.

This is idiotic - no offense to anyone on this board, but the target audience for texting in almost no way coincides with the target audience of a sports talk format, and Mitch is kidding himself if he thinks this is the key to drawing the younger demo....

The only show I heard even referring to this on Friday was North's (which makes me think he read a couple of fake texts). What happened to the big launch?

The cell phone is the single greatest benefit to talk radio in the last decade. People can call in wherever they are...and many people listening to these sports shows are driving in cars. So I am just thrilled that the Score is now encouraging text messaging, knowing that many of their audience are in cars. BRILLIANT! Thanks SCORE for this contribution to traffic safety.

This would be a great promotional tagline for them..."Your next traffic crash, serious injury and death will be brought to you by the Score Sportsradio 670 text messaging."

It's one thing for a program trying to reach people at home watching TV to encourage text messaging (like voters for American Idol or other tv programs). But to encourage text messaging for a radio program when many of your audience are in cars and some might just be stupid enough to send a text message while driving? Encourage the stupid to be stupid and unsafe? Words can't express the ignorance of it all....

(CBS) MINNEAPOLIS On March 30, Minnesota Timberwolves center Eddie Griffin was drunk and masturbating when he crashed his luxury SUV into a parked Suburban outside a store in Minneapolis, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday by the man whose Suburban was hit in the crash.

WCCO-TV obtained copies of 911 calls and store surveillance video of the incident, along with an accident report the police submitted to the state, reports WCCO-TV's Caroline Lowe.

Several of the 911 callers that night said Griffin was drunk. One witness said Griffin told him he was watching pornography in a DVD player mounted on the dashboard of his Cadillac Escalade SUV when he struck a Chevy Suburban parked on University Avenue Southeast.

The location where Griffin crashed is located a couple miles from the Target Center where Griffin had played with his team several hours earlier.

Abed Hassuneh, who is the brother of the victim, said Griffin told him, "That he was masturbating himself going down that street. That's how the accident happened because he was not paying attention. He's paying attention to that video and all of a sudden he's shoveled somebody's car on the top of the sidewalk."
