o.k.... i listened when he was 9-12, pre-mariotti, pre silvy and carmen, pre existing shitfest.... the only thing that bothered me were the 2 minute clone phone calls. the interviews, rome ranting on whatever....i dug. i've been listening to the first half hour of the replays lately after silvy and carmen, and my opinion hasn't changed. it's a decent show. |

Agreed. I enjoy the e-mails segments, some of Romes rants are pretty funny. But the callers absolutely kill the show. I could care less about what some jerk from Sandusky thinks about Barry Bonds. And could care even less about their desire to come across as cool. Subtract that and some of the pointless interviews with musicians & Nascar drivers, and you've got a pretty solid show. |

The only call ins on Rome that are funny is when they have the Smackoff and all the big name clones make appearances and go after each other. That's a one time a year thing. Some of those guys can really bring it and don't pull any punches. It makes for good radio. People dislike Rome for the catchphrases and the callers but that's the schtick there. I might be stretching a bit here but he's a very good interviewer, gets alot of good guys in there and is entertaining. I'd love to see him back on during the day rather than late at night. |

He is very good on actual sports - he knows strategy, rules, things like that. It all is detracted by the callers, the paper-shuffling pregnant pauses, and the fact that when he interviews an athlete he goes over the top blowing them. He tries to be their best friend by just absolutely kissing their ass, and it gets really annoying. If he could correct those things, it would be a great show. |

i listen time-to-time. i agree with MUScholar, tho. he really butters up the interviewees. and then he raves for hours after they're off. did you hear his hubie brown interview a couple months ago? he spent what felt like a solid hour afterward calling hubie brown the messiah. and then he did it again the next night. we get it, man. he's great. |

Yo, C squared, what is up? So you're trying to pull my ghetto pass? Hilarious. Don't make me round up a posse of clones, and get up in your grill. What, are you smokin' the hippy lettuce? Ricky Williams thinks you sound baked. I'm making some mad jack, and I can have you removed. Our confrontation will be epic. I am out! J. Rome |

This post has no sarcasm in it, really. For odd reasons, I enjoy the phone calls from towns that don't even have major leauge teams. Wonderful places like Boise, Rodchester, Providence, and my favorite Knoxville. Rome is not afraid to blast on people like Kobe, whom I also hate, so it is entertaining none the less. Rome is a huge Replacements fan, had the drummer on in June, and Westerburg no-showed. Not a surprise. Keep the 12 hour tape delay, so I can hear "Up all night" as the bumper into the last segment at 12:45ish in the am. This post was just practice, late. |

I thought the Smackoffs were horrendous. Just plain bad radio. 5 to 7 minutes of one guy from Omaha bashing another Rome regular caller, and 30 seconds of a meaningless sports take. Very bad. His normal shows are good, minus the callers. |

Martin, those smackoffs are like the live-air version on what we do on these boards. Funny for us, not so much for a radio listener. |

If the station wants to air Rome after midnight, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but why wouldn't they have a live show (preferably a local show) from 10 - midnight, which would compete with the Sox postgame show on the Score most nights? You can't tell me that Chris Rongey is unbeatable. I switch off ESPN 1000 as soon as I hear Rome's voice. |

Hey Yellow - I heard this interview - it was bassist Tommy Stinson. And don't forget: tree, chiclets, and lettuce. |

I might be picky but I cant stand his phony act either. I tried to like him but he's such a characture of himself. In real life he probably drives a hyundai and lives with his momma. I just cant listen. The "Fu-man-chu" face went out in the 80's. |

I have never listened. I am still holding a grudge over the "Chris" Everett beating. |

I agree with that seriosuly I think his show is one of the better ones on the radio these days. It takes awhile to grow on you though. |

Rome Rules. Labor Day show----The Best of Jim Rome This show was insanely hilarious. Obvious editing strips out the usual dead air on live shows. The result--nonstop standup monologues. Boers and Bernstein/Steve Dahl/ maybe even Stern--Jim Rome is right up there with the best. |

The interviews are awful way too much ass kissing and he always goes for the sappy ones as well. The e-mails are great, calls are good and Rome can be very funny. But what is Rome really like? I hear he's 2 faced jag off in person. |

Yeah, I don't mind him, even if on tape delay. Better than other late night options. I just hate the callers (similar to how Who You Crappin is now. Seems like everyone is just trying to impress Rome and does their little rant the same way he would do it) or once in a while there'll be a few guests that don't interest me, but there's a few guys in this town I'd take him over |

Its about effing time. My only question is why they trotted out his replay for multiple years. I guess if we are lucky we will get Cannelis and Telender doing their hardware show. |

I remember when Rome first got into the Chicago market, he was talking about what a big deal this was, and he even did a few shows from here. Guess that didn't work out. Back to LA for him. |

Chicago is a tough market to crack- best example--Howard Stern took quite a while before he caught on here. Rome is bigger everwhere else(#19 on this national list). http://www.talkers.com/main/index.php?o ... &Itemid=44 He couldnt overtake Dan Patrick here so they tape delayed him. Personally I think Rome's the best syndicated sports show. I hope another station picks him up. Its a shame that just 2-3 companies own all 50KW stations-- theres nowhere else to go. |

Total agreement, TM. They kill the show. However, I think his timeslot was perfect lately - its exactly the kind of show I want to listen to coming home late at night. In the morning or afternoon, not so much. |
