MY GUY! Dropping the "If the Sox don't make the playoffs, it's because there is just not enough season"

Sometimes, when you are paid to talk and make things sound good, sometimes it just doesn't sound that good.

184 Games Season! Do it!

How much season does he think they need to catch Detroit?

This is why I don't buy all the "poor Ranger" bullshit. The fans aren't stupid. They don't like being lied to. He needs to step up and call this team the underachieving piece of shit it is. His spin is worse than anything any caller has ever said. And that's really saying something.

It's because of comments like this that I stopped listening to Ranger broadcasts about 3 years ago. Season just isn't long enough, right? So the Tigers wouldn't win in 184 or 200 games. Is that what you would say if you did Tigers post game, Ranger? Funny how the stupid comments, by Ranger, in support of the Sox don't get replayed on B&B like the dumb callers ripping the Sox. Some of them are actually right by the way. That's the only time I hear Ranger. On B&B play back. When he's got the red ass on a caller. Never gets angry by dumb stuff the Sox do. At least from what I remember. Correct me if he does now. I doubt it. It was always "What are you gonna do", "It is what it is", "Nobody is to blame". I know he wants to keep his job and the callers can be pissed on since they don't employ him. The point is Ranger makes dumb comments too. And if you're gonna be calm with bad play, be calm with the bad callers. I think Ranger takes the attitude that his callers are dumb, he's the only smart one, and he actually believes his own bullshit like "They just ran out of season" cuz that's what the Sox feed him. Along with all of the other bullshit they feed him of which he takes to the air.

At the end of the day, Ranger is just there to pimp the team, the Sox sponsors and to tell you that "great seats are still available for upcoming games". That's what his job is. The actual talk part is just filler BS to him and the Sox.

I'm telling you. Ranger is another example of the Bernstein influence at the Score. They're all broadcasting ass holes now. Even Bernstein yelled at Ranger for stealing his bit when B&B replayed "A Ranger meltdown" with a caller. Ranger had a scary-evil tone with a caller, fired the caller from being a Sox fan and told him to get off his postgame show.

"That's my thing, Ranger. Quit stealing from me!!!" Bernstein said.

No...hes not. As I have said before, Rongey is the White Sox equivalent of Zach Zaidman. Both are team suck ups & neither has the balls to be objective.

This post hits the nail on the head. But the Sox have it all wrong, as usual. They aren't promoting the team by having some dope sugarcoat every brutal moment of a shitty season. Instead they're angering the very fans they are begging to come to the park and then adding insult to injury by allowing every other douchebag host on the station giggle and mock those fans that actually care enough to call in.

I never found Dave Wills particularly likable. And he often blasted stupid callers. But it came off much different. Wills is one of us. I know Rongey has come to this forum and stated what a Sox fan he is in response to my previous criticisms. I don't doubt that he pulls for the White Sox. He's paid to root for them. But he can never be a fan of them the way I am. The way Frank is. The way Boyd is. The way Terry's Peeps is. The way Wills is. Just like Wills can never really be a Rays fan.

Post subject:  Re: The Ranger 'Just not enough season!"

That's a good point. Ranger probably does cost the Sox ticket sales. It is ironic since that's his sole purpose and that's what he tries to do by blindly defending the Sox. A lot of people are like me and only hear the B&B playbacks of his out of control, insane rants at callers. B&B have to have 10 times the audience that Ranger gets at night for the dumb postgame show. That's a lot of people disgusted at the Sox employee. Doesn't matter if he's right or wrong when talking to a given caller. His overall BS and sugar-coating does turn off potential ticket buyers. A lot of fans have to be turned off by those wild yelling rants by a Sox employee. If people don't buy tickets cuz of him, for whatever reason, that's all that matters to the Sox.

I'll put the number at 40k in ticket sales of which the Ranger costs the Sox. Could be more but let's just put it at that. Doesn't sound like a lot but when you consider Ranger makes about 40k they at least hope he can sell 40k in tickets or else there is no reason to have him. It backfires cuz of Ranger's temper and BS talk. So Ranger's salary and him yelling at callers costs the Sox 80k by my estimation. Ranger is a liability to the Sox. There. Like the way I figured that?

I don't care if Ranger is a Sox fan. I care that he makes just as many dumb comments as the callers that he hates and he doesn't even realize it. I do hate this "poor Ranger" thing that is put out there by the Score. It really is more "Poor Score listener" as Joe Orr has said. It's a few dumb callers but many more listeners of Ranger that never call and have to hear his dumb bullshit. To be fair, Bernstein does call out Ranger for his stupidity and shilling at times. So he doesn't totally get away with it without being called out.

I really don't think Ranger costs them any ticket sales, I actually think he is amazingly poorly used by the Sox.

They should have him after every home game doing a post game show from the drunken bullpen bar, or pregame. Let the fans get pissed on the air (kinda), of course you would need security as it is pretty brutal in there.

I think all 5 of the Sox PR guys/broadcasters cost the Sox ticket sales. Ranger is the least of the 5, but they all cost them cuz people hate them all for different reasons. They reflect poorly on the Sox and turn ticket buyers away. It's all about PR and if people hate your frontmen, it will cost you.

Stone, Hawk, Farmio, DJ and Ranger probably cost the Sox a million dollars in ticket sales combined. They're all weird, pompous and full of shit in different ways.

That's the thing about the Cubs. People love Kasper and Brenly. That helps them. And Brenly pisses all over the Cubs at times. The Sox and Sox broadcasters should learn from that.

Maybe a million is light on my part. No way to know. Maybe I'm way off. Maybe it's in the tens of millions that the broadcasters cost the Sox. They were hoping to get 2.5 million fans this year. They're barely gonna get 2 million.

500 thousand tickets not sold times let's just say $40 dollar average ticket price comes to 20 million dollars short of what they thought they might get. That's not counting concession sales. Let's make it 30 million with that. How much of that 30 million is lost due to the hate for the 5 broadcasters/PR guys? You make the call.

Chuck and Melton are harmless. They neither help nor hurt. Nobody loves them, but nobody hates them either. It's just the other five.

This I will agree with! Been saying it for years and years! And this one is all on guy. Jerry R. Probably his worst skill as an owner, the ability to read the public and react accordingly. All these guys are in place because he likes them, nothing more.

You would think he sees this one on the wall after he got rid of Harry how much this hurt them.

I don't know if any of these broadcasters affect tickets sales one way or the other. My point is that if Rongey's absurd rose-colored view of the Sox is "because he is a Sox employee and that's what the Sox want", I don't understand why. I'm sure he angers far more fans than he pleases. He's smug and rude. Beardown put it very well by questioning why the people on the Score- particularly Rongey- find it so much easier to tolerate bad and stupid baseball than bad and stupid callers.

This is particularly funny in light of Bernstein's vociferous defense of the station's impartiality vis-a-vis the Feldman/Booyas stuff. I know he has to say things like that, but I wonder if he believes any of it. I mean, come on, dude, your Bears beat reporter and your White Sox pre-/postgame guy are both essentially PR hacks for their respective teams.

Is there something about a .500 team that Rongey fails to recognize after 5 months of this garbage?

I'll be waiting patiently for Dan Bernstien to hold Jerry Reinsdorf a bit accountable for the dysfunctional Sox organization he presides over.

Watched ZZ run after Lovie at Halftime of Pre4, did his walking interview, then ended it and as play after player walks by, ZZ high 5's a few but saves a special fist bump for Caleb!

I don't think anyone should be surprised by Ranger's unwillingness to rip the organization as his position is meant to interest people in the team, not turn them away.

This understanding does not however release him of the homerism I , and others, enjoy ripping him about!!!!!!
