$362 per half-minute spot? OK, then let's figure this out. Anyone please correct me if these numbers are way off.

They probably have about 15-20 minutes of commercials per hour, about right? Times 24 hours a day = let's say about 400 minutes of commercials = 800 spots. That seems really high, though... and let's figure the ads cost less overnight (get it? "less" overnight..) So let's be conservative and say 800 * $300. That puts you in the ballpark of $240,000 per day in revenue.

Can that be right???

That times 365 = more than $80 million per year in revenue. That sounds way high, but, where am I going wrong?

Also they probably charge even more during Sox games.

Where does all that revenue go? After the gubermint takes their share, I'm sure Uncle Jerry gets a huge hunk for transforming our beloved station-of-the-fans into WSOX. But that still leaves a whole lot of millions left over.

If the talent is working for reduced rates these days (certainly none of them are making seven figures, are they?) where is all the money going?

Who knew talking about sports was such a mint.

Most goes to paying Terry's health insurance. Someone that old doesn't live cheaply.

Every single station in Chicago listed at Beebo's website is listed as charging $362.
Definitely a huge error!

Radio stations vary in spot rate due to many factors – popularity, ratings, etc. However, at Radio Lounge we have placed many radio advertising campaigns throughout the country and thus are able to give you a good ballpark price.

The average rate for a :60 commercial in Chicago is about $456

That's assuming you don't get package deals. I imagine there's a lot of discounting. Flipside, what does it cost to run a radio station? I don't know, either....
