is as bad as I ever remember it, including the early years...odd teams of untalent people. Drinky was good.

I only heard 15 minutes, which was enough time to hear McKnight a) refer to Devin Hester's ongoing chest injury since early this year, b) stating it's been a long time since a 10-6 team missed the playoffs, and c) stating that Caleb Hanie won't be snapping off any 35-yard runs like Cutler does.

Good times...

And the, "where's my gun?" Moment had to be the 10 minute convo on connors dessert baking which included matty proclaiming carving pumpkins is too icky for him...

This is probably the best Score B team in the history of the score. Goff & Matty are great, & Rosey, Rozner, Finfer & McNight are good too. I enjoy the bench players more than the prime time shows.

Are you asking who the good B teamers were? George and Fred. Dave Baum. Jesse, not so much... Sweica, pre-Sporting News Speigel. Dave Kerner was alright

There are a tubload of producers who are lightweights when the mics are on. Update guys and reporters, too.

When you look at that list it really is striking how much more qualified and professional those guys are than the current group of Score Search dopes and bernstein impersonators.

Take someone like Sweica (full disclosure: I wouldn't call her a friend but I do know her personally). I know she's a punchline in the boy's club that is Chicago sports radio. And she did attract the heavy breathers when she was on at night. But she wasn't a know-it-all and she tried to be informed about the sports she talked about. She wasn't just coming on the air and talking shit. She's someone who is at least as smart as bernstein but without the arrogance and rudeness. Naturally, there was no place for her at WSCR.

Gotta find out who is good and who sucks, this is how you do it. Let have some time.

Connor and Abbatacola sucked as a team.

I know Spiegs doesn't get much love on the board. I can't say I ever listen to his show. But I often times hear him on the transition podcast, and can tell just from that, that he blows Mac out of the water concerning EVERYTHING sports. No comparison.

However, he over talks during the transition and apparently doesn't understand that we want to hear Bernstein, or even Boers instead of him.

All that said, it's more of a testimony as to where Mac's radio career is currently sitting.

Time to rename that thing the Matt Spiegel Show.

P-Mac is just plain lazy. Damn near anyone blows P-Mac out talking about sports.
Why does he think people care about his gambling, drinking, drug use, ED, cooking and about him pissing all over himself? He is spiraling into north territory quickly, he's become irrelevant.

Not to mention he was most likely wrong, since Smith was insisting all along that Hanie was the starter regardless of whether they got Orton or not.

Yeah I know, I thought about that too. But, I guess since Lovie is a "liar" anyway, perhaps he was lying about Orton being Hanie's backup. Just trying to decode their meatball logic... :eye:

I'd rather have Baum fill in for anyone on the weekly slots than (especially) LoHo. He actually knows how to pace a show

Whatever. Opinions vary. But all three of them have distinct voices and singular personalities. I hear these goofs they have now and I'm not even sure who is who.

sweica? never should a woman have a mic talking mens sports...losing jesse rogers and julie sweica was a good thing but i agree that mcknight is no good and sounds too much like 2 or 3 other of those guys...rosenbloom is the best part timer and deserves more air time

What didn't you like about Julie? That she actually read or watched enough to know what she was discussing? That she treated callers with respect even when they were obviously masturbating during the call or when they had idiotic nighttime thoughts?

As far as women discussing "men's sports" is concerned, you don't have to go to far to see that some women know more about sports than you do since Spaulding's thoughts on pro football are better than those of most of the big, strong men who post here.

well there are some men who do not know much about sports and sure sweica is more informed than some of them...but i do not want a woman talking mens sports...as far as her being kind to callers? i could not care less how the host treats callers...most callers are retarded... if you are going for the male demographic 18-54 or whatever than you do not put a woman on the air...you may not like it but it is just the truth.

B is wrong.

C is obvious.

He's just saying he hates Hanie. Which is fine. Hanie blows.

I like Connor.

Joe O is terrible. Dont mix them up.

There is a reason that Julie Sweica is no longer in radio. She was bad & station program directors knew it.

You start out with Goff and drinky, and you're already doing better than at any point in history.

Hub's ok. Doug and OB are awesome - if they count??

I don't listen enough to have an opinion on anybody else. But Goff & drinky on the B Team is already more than enough to make sure it's certainly not the worst ever.

Oh ya, there's Laurence too. I guess some people like him.

I think I should have defined my terms better. The people that get on the radio in hodgepodge fashion only between Thanksgiving and the second week of February are the group I was referencing. That might be the C team as the B team gets fill in shifts during the rest of the year.

There is no way that the current crop of wannabes comes close to past versions. As has been said, this group is a bunch of guys who sound just like the other. Worse, they pair some of them together. While some callers do occasionally get Terry and Dan, or even Mully and Hanley, confused>>>the rule is, with the fill in and weekend guys, that callers have no idea who just said what.

McKnight is awful. I've seen it posted that he is too breathy, and that is dead on. Remedial would be a good term to describe his sports thoughts.

Joe O is brutal. Usually paired with the rube above, it sounds more like a couple of high school kids pretending to do radio than it does an actual big city radio station.

Finfer is just another guy. Again, I've seen it posted that it sounds like something, I don't know what, is stuck in his mouth when he talks. He tries to use his serious voice when he's trying to hammer a point home, but it just sounds forced and Bush League.

Rodewald, Grote, and whoever else sounds like a awful Frankenstein mixture of the three listed above & a dash of a Bernstein impression: bad.

Rosenbloom and Rozner are as close to unique voices as you can get out of the backup team, but that doesn't mean they're great. Rather, much like that screaming producer Rhodes from the morning show, oft times it sounds like they're taking the contrarian stance just to take the contrarian stance.

I certainly hope that the Holmes experiment is over soon, hopefully heading off into the TV sunset. While he might have some true fans, his reach can't be considered wide (and his version of narrow isn't the 'smart' audience that guys like Bernstein like to think they're speaking to). While the giant ego, talking about 'his' guys, and talking 'more than sports' may have worked for North for quite awhile>>>Larry trying to replicate it, with his own flavor, results in awful radio.

There is no doubting that the quality of past WSCR 'Bench Mob' personnel is overrated, with time and fading memories being their best friend, I just don't see a guy like Bernstein lurking in the shadows at this time. Much like Jimmy Fallon becoming a face of comedy, today, I certainly hope that the talent(less) pool of backup Score guys doesn't represent where Sports Talk is headed. LOL

While we're doing revisionist history (forgetting how bad guys like Chuck Daly were as 'experts'), I do want to say that the morning show (as frustrating as it can be) is the only one with worthwhile experts. I know some think Jim Miller and Matt Bowen are great, but I remember fondly the days where a Walter Payton or Doug Collins would talk us through the season.

Besides being the "Dancing Fool" at the end of NBC5's Friday morning newscast with that embarrassing "Dance Friday" they do, Matt Rodewald sounds a lot like ESPN's "Professor" John Clayton when he talks, whether he's doing updates or occasionally hosting a show on The SCORE.

I actually enjoy Matt Abbatacola & Jason Goff whenever they get airshifts on the station, but I'll never quite understand why management broke up those two. They filled at night for Laurence Holmes on vacation a few weeks ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed what they brought to the table.

For what it's worth, the best of the bench players at The SCORE is Hub Arkush. He may be the station's Senior NFL & Bears' Analyst, but he's not afraid to discuss other topics and guests usually aren't far behind when he gets an airshift. Besides, Arkush seems to treat his callers with a great deal of respect.
