As the Sox mini Dynasty is coming to a close, I wonder if WSCR is happy with the financial returns it provided?
If it cost them $2.5M a season, plus maybe another $500K in support, sales, salaries? did the Sox alone generate more than $3M in revenue?
It's all a question of whether they make for compelling radio, and bring in revenue.
The interesting thing is the unexpected expenses. For example, if they didn't have baseball, they'd be running Murph in the 6-10pm timeslot. They did that last year with the BlackHawks, making for Murph's having many nights off, or doing 10-minute shifts, etc. Now, they have him down in the 12-2pm, splitting what would normally be a 4-hour shift with Hanley/Mully. I understand he brings in ratings, and that's good & all... But you also have to figure that one of those truncated slots' salaries ought to be balanced against the Sox revenues. Either that, or rebalance the shifts so they're 3 hours long during the day, thus truncating the North and B&B shows down.
I'm just amazed at how much programming is the Rongey pre-game and post-game shows. He's one quite a bit, moreso than Jesse Rogers is, with the Hawks. (Yeah, thank God)
