What is the "The Racetrack" and even if North has this sponsored, I still see this being a $$$ loss event for someone. Of course as I have always said about North he continues to find lost civilizations that are willing to pay for his promotions.

It has to be Hawthorne. I'm guessing the Careys are the only ones dumb enough to put this shit on.

Youngest Carrie, or maybe he isnt the youngest, but he was young. So I am at one of those MH Boys days out and I am outside the "private Box" and maybe there are 5 of us out there...he was one. Didnt know who he was, just figured another guy...and I am saying to him "This place is such a shithole, can't believe they let it go to this...it looks like it is abandoned."

This was the upper deck area, looks like pigeons have been shitting there for 30 years and nobody has sat outside in 20 years. Not that the main level is great and looks untouched from 1975, but at least it is cleaned, maintained, etc...

After he leaves Hanley asks if I have met him before? said nope...told me who he was...Oops..lol..

If you they are going to toss out a FREE EVENT, I think you need to do better than deviled eggs, fish and cheese and bologna samwiches! as my FREE LUNCH. Maybe give me a room we can all fit in? Brownies and cookies were good.

If you are going to totally neglect a section, close it off and cover it, so it doesnt fall apart.

Yeah, Hawthorne almost looks and feels like a prison or, at best, a factory. Some of the most depressing times in my life have been when I had a bad losing day there when they used to have harness double headers in the winter.

Here's how dumb the Careys are. Everybody in the world burns down their own racetrack for the insurance money. The Carey family's track burned down too. They just didn't take care of the insurance part.

Then they rebuilt the thing for a different time when 20,000 people regularly showed up on a Saturday. At least Duhossois was prescient enough to recognize what the OTB era was going to do to on-track attendance and rebuilt Arlington accordingly.

And you know the story about the scorpion and the frog? The Careys and Dick Duchossois acted out their own version of it. The Careys helped Dick out of a jam and then he turned the screws on them as soon as he had the chance.

I've got nothing personal against the Careys. In fact, I think they're probably the most honest racetrack owners in the world. They're just goddamn dumb.

Although the late racetrack legend Shaky Lou Forbes couldn't stand the Careys. When he found out that Bob Carey had fallen off his roof and was in critical condition, Lou said, "That's a fucking shame. He should have been holding his brother's hand when he fell."

I know they try, it just doesnt work. Of course when you drive there past 100+acre vacant factories, you know it is a not a good sign for them.

Also, the people that work their are really not so fucking hopeful, from the guys who park the cars to the admission people etc. There should be NOTHING off limits, ropes, VIP, private etc...you want to have the VIP room, which I think they have...get it off the main floor.
