I think this needs to be read by everyone on here: Posted by Larz on 3/4/2012, 9:05 pm, in reply to "Re: What's the deal with Dan McNeil?" Some of you people are heartless bastards. Here is one radio host who has no choice but to take some emergency time off to fix a personal health issue, and another who has to take some emergency time off to deal with family issues, and yet opportunistic Internet trolls come out of the woodwork on this site and elsewhere to kick these men while they are down. Unreal. No wonder message boards get a bad wrap. One of the most thankless jobs in radio is a sports talk show host. No matter what you say or do, there will always be hundreds of people who will hate you with a passion and bad mouth you. If you play it safe & boring, listeners will say you are horrible and have no backbone. If you put yourself out there and voice your opinion, half of the listeners will have the opposite opinion and say you are horrible. There is not one single sports talk show host on the air right now that everybody would agree is decent. Every single one raises emotions and brings out the worst in message board denizens. No matter what they do, a radio sports talker is damned if they do, damned if they don't. These people on the radio are human beings. They have personal lives which they need to tend to from time to time, just like everybody else. They have children and spouses and family members that love them for who they are. They have qualities and they have failings just like everybody else. It's one thing to say you don't care for their show or something they may have said. It's another to get as personal as some of the posts have been. (Including the one deleted post from an a-hole who thought it would be funny if one of these radio hosts was dead. Nice.) If you want to wish these guys well as they take care of what they have to take care of, good for you. That means you had a Mother who taught you manners at some point in your life. If you don't want to wish them well, that's your right, too. Use some common sense, though |

a lot of what Larz said may be true, but I also beleive a lot of what I hear comes from guys who are pompous and think they are doing us a favor by talking about what little sports knowledge they do have. You can call me bitter, but after reading today that one guy with a FT job at the SCORE didn't know Jeff Szmardja played WR at ND,I'm starting to wonder how any of these shlubs earned a job. |

Sports radio hosts are in the public eye. Our society treats people in the public eye this way. I don't disagree with Larz, but at the same time I dont care and just ignore it the same way he should. |

Bullshit from Larz. These radio hosts do nothing but call people out on a regular basis and speculate about athletes all the time, usually going on very little actual facts. That's what sports radio is for fuck's sake. That being said I don't care what Mackeyfish is doing with his time off or why he took it. A thankless job? Maybe for schlubs like the CONSTROWSKI or Randazzo. But not for Mac. He's the Pope of Dyer, IN. I think Mac would understand the questions about his whereabouts since he himself throws people under the basis on a daily basis and has been doing it for 25 years in this city. Nature of the business. |

What he neglects to mention are the non-stop attacks the talk show hosts level on athletes, and in WSCR's case, non-sports figures. It cuts both ways, and I think the message board hatred really comes from the training provided daily by sports talk radio shows that fire on everyone. |

*SIGH* Look, uh, uh, I, I, in my world, and I don't know who this Larz guy is, but eh, eh, uh, I've been in this business a long time, a loooooooooong time, and eh, eh, uh, *SIGH* look, again, one of the hazards of this business, uh, uh, I mean, you come across the worst examples of human scum, eh, uh, uh, but again, in my world, uh uh, the walking rectums, in point of fact, uh, eh eh, the Bobby Knights, the Steve Alfords, the Mark Cubans, and then uh, eh, eh, look, then there are others that you've never met but you can tell that they're rectums just by the mere fact that they're white and they play basketball, uh, eh, eh, Hansbrough, Harangody, whoever, the whole damn bunch of them, uh, eh, eh, I don't differentiate, walking rectums all of them, but again, and look, for the love of God, whoever this Larz guy is, he has a point, this uh, eh, this is a hard job and for a bunch of pantsless cretins to judge our every word, not in my world, not in my world, that's alls I'm sayin'. |

I would say "well said", but I will say "accurately said". All they do is spew hatred toward public figures. I think the message boards are unfair to hosts, but the hosts are doing the same thing and have taught us well. I will criticize several in sports media, namely Rozner and Bernsie, but I try to back up my criticism with examples. |
