I understand the ratings almost always have WSCR winning. Yet, most everyone I talk to listens to ESPN?

Outside of the guys cranking the spanish stations, 90% of the other guys on my jobs listen to ESPN. Only one guy listens to WSCR (Gary the Irish Plumber)

I know these new ratings numbers are supposed to be much more accurate, but I am not sure they are correct?

Just asking

Wouldn't the traffic on your site be a decent indication? B&B makes up the vast majority of it, Danny Mac is a very distant 2nd, M&H are at least discussed as a punchline. I'm not sure the last time there was anybody talking about M&M, Van Peezy, or CJH on here.

Most guys I know that listen to sports radio prefer WSCR.

I mostly hear people say that they listen to The Score, but some of these people also think that North is still on their airwaves.

Speaking of people being cowards and losers and living in the past, how many of you would be more likely to listen to The Score in the morning if let's say........a Steve Dahl hosted a show with Grobber in the morning? Obviously it wouldn't be an all sports show, but there'd definitely be some personality there. And it would be fun to hear the interaction between Dahl and Grobber again.

I know....this is stupid for many reasons. But it'd be fun, IMO.

WMVP's cumulative number is often greater than WSCR's:

Everyone that I know is a Score guy. I cant think of one guy I know who prefers AM1000 WMPV ESPN Radio. Not one.

Of course not. It's merely more accurate recording of the diary-keepers listening habits. Now, how representative are they of the city's listeners and tastes? OTOH, the people you meet, how representative are they? Maybe everyone else listens to WGN all day.

If the station could figure out a way to sell the dead air , a Dahl / Grobber show would be the top grossing ad revenue show in Chicago.

Post Garry Meier, I 100% agree. The funny thing is that Garry hardly ever said anything.

Score has better personaltys.

All espn has is Murph, Hoody, and Waddle.

Did Waddle buy a personality?

i never heard gary meyer..think i did not start listening to talk radio until i was 17 or so...and it was howard everyday until he left for satellite .....i only heard dahl when he was following stern...and it was brutal , think he had boring buzz kilman and some woman...tons of dead air...long 20 second pauses where i thought my radio lost a signal...just terrible ..... y favorite host locally is jay hood...i don't understand how he is not an everyday host ..he is the best in town.

Complete opposite with my friends. They all listen to WSCR and hate themselves for it. Quite the unique accomplishment for 670

SCR

Haven't listened to ESPN since Mac got canned...and I barely listened before that. Don't like Harry, don't like Waddle...can't stand Mike & Mike.

Don't really watch ESPN on TV unless I have to, either. Don't like the brand.

I know a few folks who used to love WSCR and switched to MVP. Their reasons were that ESPN isn't as negative/snarky as The Score and has better guests. I think it's got a lot to do with a lot of score hosts following Dan's lead to rally against meatballism with open hostility, so the sausages have found their way over to Jurco and his crew since they more openly cater to those callers.

You missed the golden age of Chicago radio. Johnny B, Kevin Matthews, Steve & Garry, then Chet Coppock with his young producer Dan "Rusty Jones" McNeil. I'm off to the early bird special, followed by Wheel Of Fortune, then bed.

Speaking of which, you keep seeing WGN doing big ratings, but I have not once in my life met someone who listens to WGN for anything besides Cubs and Hawks.

I think it's the retirees. My old man retired about a year ago and has started adding WGN in to his talk radio rotation and he's not even 60 years old.

This was the best lineup ever. I could listen all day with no issues. The irony here is them all making fun of WGN and now 2 work there and the rest would take a job there for any $$$ they offered.

The score would be better if they carried Dan Patrick so you
could get a mix of national and hometown sports. That is the only reason
I would listen to 1000 is to hear a little bit of that.

I'm sure many of you older guys can relate to this. I grew up in a house that had WGN on the radio all day long. The station was never ever changed. Wally Phillips in the morning, Roy Leonard in mid days, Bob Collins in the afternoons or Cubs games with Vince Lloyd & Lou Boudreau. Radio was more important back then. Many cars only had AM radio, there was no way to listen to music in the car, & there were no XM Serious radio or IPods.
My 77 year old Mother still has the radio on top of the refrigerator tuned to WGN all day long. She loves Garry Meier, cant stand Mike McConnel, but is undecided on Johnny B. For some reason she loves Glen Kozlowski.

Fuck. My mom used to make me listen to Wally Phillips. Shit I even remember Bill Berg. He was pre Bob Collins.

Useless fact. Wally Phillips was married to the same woman three times. That's right. They divorced twice then got married again.

WGN had this show on Sunday. I think it was called Music Unlimited. The absolute worst music you've ever heard.
