WSCR-AM/670 The Score is holding its 4th annual "Score Search," this time looking for a new on-air sports talk host. The search began today and will continue on through early July. The final decision will come in late July.
The Score will be holding open auditions over the next few weeks, trying to find a fresh, as of yet undiscovered talent to become a host on the local all-sports station. Between now and July 7th, those interested in auditioning for this year's "Score Search" can find out how to register by visiting TheScoreSearch.com. The live auditions will take place at various Chicagoland Buffalo Wild Wings locations during the months of June and July. (Buffalo Wild Wings is the main sponsor of this "Score Search.") Participants will have the opportunity to record a 90 second audio sample on a given sports related topic.
Based on those audio auditions, a panel of broadcast industry experts will choose the top ten candidates, who will then have the opportunity to meet with WSCR-AM Program Director, Mitch Rosen. That group of ten will then be shrunken down to the four candidates which appear to be the best fit for the station. At that point, the final four will have bios and audition pieces placed up on The Score's website, allowing listeners to vote for their favorite candidate.
The entire search process is scheduled to conclude with a live remote broadcast on Saturday, July 21st at a Buffalo Wild Wings location to be named later. At that live broadcast, one of the four final candidates will win the coveted on-air position with CBS Radio's WSCR-AM.
This is the fourth consecutive year that WSCR-AM has done a "Score Search" competition. The first year, 2009, found the station a new sports reporter in Connor McKnight. He remains with the station in that role to this day. He also co-hosts the occasional "Joe O & Connor McKnight Show" alongside Joe Ostrowski. The second year winner, named in the summer of 2010, was Maya Gavin, who has since been with WSCR-AM as a weekend overnight sports talk show host, a role she still has. Last summer, the station found its newest online sports blogger in Tim Baffoe.
Program Director Mitch Rosen said today: "I'm excited for year four of Score Search. This is truly where sports radio meets American Idol. In the past years we have been very fortunate to find great personalities such as Connor McKnight, Maya Gavin, and Tim Baffoe. This year we will have the same goal - to find the next Score host!"

WSCR-AM/The Score was Chicago's first all-sports talk station, signing on in January 1992. The station began on AM 820, moved to AM 1160 in 1997, and finally settled in at AM 670, a 50,000 watt clear-channel signal, in 2000. The local sports-talk station has been leading its rival WMVP-AM in the majority of key demographics and ratings for the past two years, including having the top rated morning show in the target demographic of Men 25-54 for many consecutive months.
Due to a CBS corporate decision, The Score's website, 670TheScore.com, is a shared website, along with WBBM-AM and WBBM-TV, found at CBSChicago.com. Locally, CBS Radio also owns WBBM-AM, WBBM-FM, WCFS-FM, WJMK-FM, WUSN-FM, and WXRT-FM.
