Screw what they do. It's bullshit.

Make the 6-10 shift a contest for current Score people. Score listeners can vote for Larry, drinky, Goff, Joe O or Connor to get that shift. Maybe you have a 1 week period where each of them gets this shift as an audition for the listeners. You'd have to do it in the Sox offseason so you would have enough available air time.

Then when Terry retires, Score listeners can vote on who becomes Bernstein's partner. Rozner and Rosie can be thrown into the above list for this one. Same thing applies. You have 2 weeks where each of the contestants audition with Bernstein for the listeners.

You want traffic to your website, Mitch? You'll get it if you do this. A sponsor would pay big bucks for this too. This is an "out of the box" idea, Mitch. Other stations across the country would copy it. You'd be remembered forever for this brilliant idea.

Plus it would be fun to see the boys come to CSFMB and be nice to all of us to get our vote. I would make them all write a 500 word essay on why they deserve it.

It's a good idea. It also will never happen.

Bernstein needs no partner. See the Dan Patrick show starring Dan Bernstein.

Larry is under contract so it couldn't happen now. But once that shift opens again, they certainly could do this with their current staff.

Bernstein would never allow a contest to determine his partner, however. Neither would I if I were him.

If Mike Francesa doesn't need a partner on WFAN in New York, as well as YES Network, Bernsy doesn't need a partner either here.

It pains me to admit that Beardown actually had a cool thought. I hate myself right now.

As I've said before, Beardown is actually a good poster when he gets away from the "Team Bernstein" crap. His sports thoughts are usually spot on.

Beardown's idea for the nighttime SCORE is better than the one that was announced yesterday. Too bad SCORE management wasn't listening when they gave Laurence Holmes that midday shift on a silver platter when "Mully & Hanley" shifted to morning drive once Mike North left. You remember the train wreck that was "Hampton & Holmes", don't you?

He used to post in the Sox section all the time.

He's all schtick right now and has been so for quite awhile.

Bit or not he has an uncanny ability to wind up Goff and Madduhbadduh and get them to respond on this board.

Great idea.

Except, the evening show is not really a show. It's like you are voting for the person who will be the #1 sub on the Score.

Larry actually does a pretty good job of being the sub, as long as it is for less than 2 days. He doesnt step on toes, just fake laughs for a day or two until he can get back to those that he thinks admire him (Herb, Joe O, etc)

Regardless, Drinky still a way better option either way.

Let's take this one step further. What does this contest say about how Mitch and Zim feel about their current backups? It says they think they suck. This is the 3rd year in a row that they've held such a contest.

Meanwhile, they have producers in Drinky, Goff, Finfer and Joe that get thrown a talk show shift every now and then. They have enough people at the Score. Mitch is saying they don't have enough good people at the Score.

If Mitch and Zim liked any of the above, they would get promoted and the "Score Search Contest" would be for a producer.

Take Connor for example. He's a full time update guy/reporter/host. That's the position drink would love to have. Connor got it from day one after winning the contest. Drink has been there for 10 years.

The bottom line is this contest has to piss of the Score producers, the wannabe hosts and reporters, and it also means the Zim and Mitch doesn't think much of any of them.

Beardown-O-Meter: 8

Especially the last sentence.

Remind me again which end of the Beardown-O-Meter is "plausible" and which is "schizophrenic homeless man"?

0 - Didn't even try, just posted anything.

1-3 - Below Average, use of race and or mention of a women/hooker for no reason.

4-6 - Average, maybe one thought in the post could be truthful

7-9 - Extremely plausible, not leaving much to debate.

10 - Perfect, spot on, nothing to debate.

beardown you are right...this is a better idea ..the only problem is mitch is lazy..he would rather keep someone he likes who is bad (sayers, holmes)at their job then hire outside and improve.if you are tight with mitch you can stick around forever.,mitch is the problem.

The only wrinkle here is that you can't make a nice big spectacle, a sponsored spectacle, out of hiring a producer. What would you have people do? Run a board?

"Okay, here's what we're going to do, uh..."
"Earl."
"Here's what we're going to do, Earl. I am going to pretend to be a delusional Sox postgame caller and you have to handle the situation."
"Okay, Ranger!"
"Ahem. I'S WANTSTA TOCK TO RANGER DEEZ DOSE ALLS DEEZ GUYS DERE SUCK"
"ohcrapwhatdoIsay....um...Okay let me put you on hold."
"...You have failed me, Earl."

True. Although if it were a tryout to be a B&B producer, you could have them practice droping race baiting sound drops at the appropriate time and repeating everything that Bernstein says. Or being a red ass and running to a mic just to yell at Bernstein for no reason.

You're right, though. Maybe keep the contest as it's currently constituted. Having them perform "talk show" stuff. But the prize is becoming a producer with the chance of advancement. Just like Mitch keeps saying to Drink and Goff.
