Post subject: | The SCORE Soon on BOTH AM & FM? |
A year ago, CBS Radio dropped the disappointing "Fresh FM" adult contemporary music format on 105.9 FM WCFS in favor of a 24/7 simulcast of 780 AM WBBM's very popular all-news format. At the time, CBS bosses all but put to bed speculation that WSCR 670 The SCORE would simulcast its sports talk format on the FM side. Although it's been a full year now since WBBM Newsradio started simulcasting its all-news format, including Chicago Bears' football broadcasts, CBS bosses aren't exactly thrilled that the simulcast has decreased, not increased, ratings & revenue for the stations. While there aren't any plans to end the WBBM/WCFS all-news simulcast anytime soon, might "Chicago's Sports Station" be the next to be simulcast? According to ChicagolandRadioandMedia.com, such plans might be a lot closer to reality now. With another CBS station in 104.3 K-Hits also struggling in the ratings, corporate bosses in New York could be pondering pulling the plug on that station's classic hits format in favor of a possible simulcast of WSCR's sports talk format real, real soon. With K-Hits not doing as well as they had hoped, CBS corporate bosses might wish to expand The SCORE's growing popularity among adult men ages 25-54. It could also pave the way for CBS Radio Chicago to air programming from the upcoming CBS Sports Radio Network, which starts up its own national sports talk network in January. What it could mean is that WSCR/WJMK wouldn't necessarily simulcast full-time, but it could mean 2 closely-related sports talkers under the same CBS umbrella. Then again, should WSCR/WJMK simulcast full time, it could mean The SCORE might be heard on 670 AM as is the case now, as well as 104.3 FM where K-Hits currently calls home. It might also mean that much like the Bears can be heard on WBBM & WCFS now, White Sox baseball broadcasts could be heard on both AM & FM, too. Sox fans who have an HD radio can listen to the games right now on WJMK 104.3 HD2. A firm decision from CBS Corporate in NYC could be announced in the next few weeks. In plain English, K-Hits could be on borrowed time... |
