Just kidding. It's interesting how little play ESPN Radio get's on this board.
It's like there is only one sports station in town. I think a smart FM manager should start a 3rd station and keep the talk local. I like J.Hood but I don't even know if the guy has a regular show on ESPN. Do any of you ever listen to AM1000?

Favorite AM 1000 Show? Before they became ESPN Radio about 15 years ago, it was "The Kevin Matthews Show" middays.

I listen to most Sox games on the Score, other than that I think the rest of the station is terrible. I want to listen to DaMaNeel, but he told me I can't. (PTFB). Not a BIGFAN of Van Pelt many days so I switch to music, but W&S is fun for me.

Hood's show is easily the best. When it's on is a whole 'nother matter. Most weeknights from 7-10??

SHARK!!!!!!!!

You rang? The show you're referring is "Chicago's GameNight", which airs most weeknights when there's no conflict with Bulls' Basketball. Jonathan Hood isn't the only guy who hosts. Jeff Dickerson, ESPNChicago.com's Bulls reporter Nick Friedell, Blackhawks reporter Jesse Rogers & even the radio voice of the Bulls himself Chuck Swirsky have rotated as co-hosts of that show.

The only time I recently set the dial to 1000 with the intention of listening to something for an extended amount of time was to catch the NLDS because it was on while I was still at work. Prior to that, I think it was for Murph and Fred when that first started, or a Bulls game. In passing, I've checked in on MJH without M, Carmen was good with Silvy, but I'm not sure what the reasoning was behind having him drive the afternoon show- that wasn't even his responsibility when he was with Silvy. I think it's creative (No, no.) that WMVP is putting an emphasis on his dago-ness as if Sopranos was still at the peak of it's popularity. In the segment or so that I listened, Jurko was still completely indifferent- a good thing, and Harry was still bumping his almanac.

I would rather stab my ears out than listen to Mike and Mike.

Does Murph still do anything on 1000?

Mike Murphy's bio has been removed from ESPNChicago.com and hasn't been on ESPN Radio 1000 in several months. In plain English, Murph, we hardly knew ye...

They're not always on together. Most of the team Jonathan Hood's on either solo, or working with ESPNChicago.com's Nick Friedell. Jeff Dickerson sometimes shares mic time with fellow ESPNChicago.com-er Jesse Rogers. Needless to say, Rogers has a lot of free time because of the ongoing NHL lockout.

I don't think I get the appeal of Hood. He seems like an older, better spoken version of Lolholmes. I'm chalking this up to not really listening to sports talk during the time he was at the Score. He seems to generate a lot of favorable opinions around these parts, though.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I think Murph is great- which isn't an opinion you run across often here.

SHARK

I picture Murph alone at home in his living room doing an imaginary radio show this week yelling "Busty Faker" and squeezing one of those clown horns repeatedly.

Huebner had Murph on a few weeks ago as a "guest" for a few minutes but yea, that ESPN gig never went anywhere regrettably.

I wonder what happened??

Probably gave the bird to one too many co-workers there.

Either that or he did one of his "quality bullpen stat" rants, which ESPN realized that even though they have low standards, they're not THAT low.

Looks like his career is done though.

I enjoyed Murph when it was baseball season and both teams were doing good. If the Sox were up and the Cubs down, he was unbearably jealous. If the Cubs were up and the Sox down? Unbearably braggart. And the rest of the year he was a terrible listen when it came to covering other sports in Chicago.

Guys like him and Keith Olbermann annoy me (for far different reasons.) They have forgotten more about baseball than I'll ever remember, but both go off the reservation as it were when it comes to beating home a point. (Murph how he was anti-press and one of the "bleacher bums" and KO? Well, just being an out of touch raging asshole to start and then only get worse from there......)
