Post subject:  The Larry Effect

This happens when you have WSCR in your car, home or office because despite what some say, it is a really good station to listen to all day for a guy. Then Larry comes on and after he provides you his 20 minute intro about how cool he is and instructions on the many many ways you can contact him if you are a homely fat chick looking for some late night lovin', he attempts to engage Herb, Connor or Tannie into a conversation about something like breakfast cereal, some bad old song, etc and the station comes to a complete screeching hault.

Then the effect hits and you end up listening to the Garry Meier show, which is pretty lame, but in comparison is Radio HOF quality! Next thing you know you have WGN on your main radio and next time you are in the car 5 mins, they have a decent topic, like a new pizza place in the area or Kap giving you some breaking news he just learned.

Then for the whole weekend you have WGN on all the time....all because someone, somehow thinks Larry is a good radio host?

Think he will have a "final show" when his time is done?

Should be titled "The Mully and Hanley Effect."

Which is turning on 670 in the morning, hearing the show and then immediately driving your car into a telephone pole.

Only significant time I spend with Larry is the 20-minute deuce when I get home around 6ish.

If your day starts and 9am and/or you have avoided driving into that telephone pole.

I usually take them in the shower with me. I think the entire in-person audience was drunk this a.m.

He starts off his show like a kid on a sugar rush, a goofy kid happy to have he attention of others while cramming sugar and soda. Laughing at everything and almost anything, one great big inside joke that is too funny for him to tell. You see this kid at Odyssey Fun World or Chuck E. Cheese, first a couple of mouthfuls of candy then an extra slice of cake with heavy frosting. Now watch him run around shrieking and giggling. Wassup Holmes!

I keep thinking I'm seeing Murph around DG. Does he have kids or live around here?

Maybe he is visiting Fred. Doesn't Fred live in DG?

Fred lives in DG. I see him occasionally at my Jewels. But there is a guy who looks exactly like Murph that I've seen at the y a few times.

I think you overestimate the attraction by calling them jewels.

DG? My cousin is living there now...where are you in that area? They're thinking of buying in there instead of renting.

And Larry is worse than an overcaffinated kid. He's a completely uncool kid who thinks he's quite cool and is very concerned with impressing you on how cool he is.

There should be a cologne called "Effect by Laurence Holmes." You all know that you'd rock it.

<derailment> there was a guy around Columbia College who looked like Ted Nugent. I wonder if he's still around. </derailment>

That happens to be my issue with him. He tries way too hard and essentially comes across as a fake.

Post subject:  Re: The Larry Effect

But he's really not fake. That's just who he is; a giant dork who isn't very good on the radio.
