The guy who's been paired up w/ Len. Never heard him, but I'll comment because this is what people do.

Stacey King by a rather wide margin. His transparent attempts to coin catchphrases falls short of my expectations for a professional sports broadcast. Once Derrick Rose established himself as a star in this league, Stacey decided to go all carpe diem on the situation and try to make a name for himself as being Captain Catchphrase(TM).

DRIVE HOME SAFELY FOLKS! BEEP BEEP!

Otherwise, uhm.... Moreland and Darrin Jackson can have a bland off. I'd come up with specific instances of each of their shortcomings and/or failures, but I can't think of anything off of the top of my head. IMHO, that says something, as if their careers are "Dead as a doorknob" to me (- Joe Carter)

I like Stacey & his 16,000 catchphrases.

Agreed. Wennington's shtick is lame.

Ed Farmer is horrible too.

So would Darkside. And he also thinks he's a bad announcer.

Keith Moreland is pretty bad, and I had such high hopes for him, too. You can tear my head off for this, but he had big shoes to fill.

Good point about Stacey's self-promotion being pretty unbecoming.

Hawk and Farmer are tied for worst in their own special ways.

Wennington is bad, but the worst is Tom Thayer. He sounds like Jm J. Bullock.

I remember one game against the Seahawks where he was like "that's roughing the passer on Patrick Kearneyy!!" in like the swishiest way possible.

He also referred to Earl Bennett as "my girl... my guy!"

I actually enjoy Stacey King and I think the catchphrases are just part of his personality and I think him being himself complements Funk's serious play by play call.

The following analysis broadcasters are significantly worse than King: DJ, Moreland and Thayer. I'm not sure about the Cubs color TV guy yet.

If there is anyone who should be imprisoned for abusing catchphrases it has to be Jeff Joniak. I am still unsure as to how he got the gig of being the Bear's announcer. It'd be like making Lou Canellis the Bear's next announcer.

Ugh, yes. "FADE TO BLAAAACK" is the dopiest shit. He also has a weird speech affectation where, like, "line" sounds like "laahhn."

Stacey King can be a good analyst with a fun side without laying it on as thick as he does sometimes.

I have to go with Joniak. The guy was learning on the job in a city like Chicago. I think Stacey King is great! The guy makes things entertaining, nothing wrong with that.

Sini blasts him for that and also bitches the other guys on his list are bland.

Tough crowd.

Joniak does that really annoying homer-announcer thing where he becomes a different person based on the situation of the game.

Good play: "Jay drops back...has time...firrrres, and IT'S CAUGHT BY MARSHALL!!! TEN, FIVE, TOUCHDOOOOWWWN!!!!!!! TOUCHDOOOOWWWN, BEARS!!!!!!!!!!"

Bad play: "Jay drops back...has time...firrrrres, and...it's intercepted. It's intercepted by Sam Shields. [sigh] I have no idea where he was throwing that pass."

He's far from the only announcer who does it, but still.

An Ed Farmer/Tom Thayer team would be broadcast hell.

Hawk is currently the worst. His time has come and gone. Time to put an end to it before it really gets embarrassing.

People rip on Pat and Eddie for getting too chummy and straying from the call, but man, I'd rather listen to Olczyk give shoutouts to every Zamboni driver at every rink in every suburb in lieu of actual game analysis than listen to Steve Konroyd, a human jar of wallpaper paste.

Pat & Eddie are easily the best sports broadcast team in Chicago. Len & Bob were also great, not sure what the new guy sounds like.

You're referring to new Cubs' TV analyst Jim Deshaies, Scorehead. Even though I'm not familiar with his work calling the Astros, I've read some pretty encouraging things. It will be a tough act to follow Bob Brenly.
