Fischer ends ‘fantastic run’ with Comcast SportsNet

If Gail Fischer didn’t hold the record for the longest run as a female sportscaster at one station in Chicago, then she came pretty close. Either way, it ended last week.

After 14 years as an anchor and reporter at Comcast SportsNet Chicago and its predecessor, Fischer has left the clubhouse.

“We have decided we will not be renewing our contract with Gail Fischer,” Comcast SportsNet said in a statement Thursday. “Her final day on our air was January 31. We appreciate everything Gail has provided our network over the years and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors. Per company policy, we have no further comment on personnel matters.”

Asked to comment on her departure, Fischer singled out James Corno Sr., president of Comcast SportsNet Chicago, for special thanks. “I will forever be grateful to Jim Corno Sr. for hiring me and sticking with me for 14 years,” she told me. “It was a fantastic run. To borrow a term from the sports world, I'm a free agent now.”

A graduate of the University of Illinois, Fischer began as a news anchor and reporter at WREX-TV in her native Rockford before joining CLTV, the Tribune Co.-owned cable news channel, in 1998. Two years later, she signed on as an anchor/reporter for Fox Sports Net, a forerunner of Comcast SportsNet.

In addition to serving as beat reporter for the Bulls and the Cubs, and as a versatile reporter on breaking news and live events, Fischer was weekend anchor for SportsNet Central.

Gail will be a nice upgrade on the Bears OL.

Women in media, once they hit their late 30s, get fired. Especially if they've had a baby or two. That's why she's out. CSN just hired a younger girl. If you remember, when Kerry Sayers got fired, they had just brought in the younger Sarah Kustok.

Guys get to stay forever in sports media TV for some reason. Look at Dan Roan and Giangreco just to name two.

What are you saying, Big Fan? Jim Corno hires the girls that agree to bang him and when they get old he fires them and picks out a younger one. I don't think so. These Comcast girls don't get paid enough to bang him. Look at him for the love of God.

I don't doubt this goes on with some TV PDs in a lot of markets. But it's got to be with the younger semi decent looking PDs Nobody is banging old Corno.

I do think he fires the older ones for the younger ones just so he can look at them move around the office and studio. Maybe flirt with them a little bit. I'm sure the girls are cool with that. But that's about it.

Let's say you were found guilty for a crime. Instead of sentencing you to prison, the judge decides to get creative. To atone for your crimes, you have to fuck one of these guys. Which would it be?

As perhaps the lone Gail Fischer hater on the board, I celebrate this news with fanfare and reverence! No more of that pedantic Caller Bob acting all smarmy and sacrosanct in her reports = a good day for chicago sports "media."

Maybe they can figure out how much a night with April Rose costs (even SHARK has no idea, clearly he can't afford it) and do some college-level-math and offer her a contract, seeing as all the CSN "reporting" gigs are custom tailored for wannabe models who can't get a gig on aesthetics alone who have the unique ability to not promptly shit themselves when the camera's red light comes on.

Either way, it's undoubtedly father time at work here cuz I bet Gail demanded a hefty sum for being an established vet, meanwhile younger/more-aesthetically-pleasing ladies would be content with sub-Fischer-bucks in the hope of getting their mug out there on the record.
